i think, for trauma survivors, especially those who were emotionally abused, invalidated, or gaslit, it is really important not to underestimate the significance of speaking bluntly about what happened to you. Forcing yourself not to beat around the bush, not to downplay what you went through with your words. say what happened, without any caveats, without any βbut it couldβve been worseβ, βbut i might just be being overdramaticβ, βbut it wasnβt really THAT bad,β and so forth. sit with the discomfort until you can begin to let yourself realize that it WAS that bad, you WERENT being overdramatic, and even if it couldβve been worse you still didnβt deserve it. Itβs almost like a form of reclamation, taking back your memories, taking back your life, even the difficult or gross parts, and refusing to let anyone change the narrative or tell you how you should feel anymore, even yourself. and it hurts and itβs scary and it feels weird and awkward and sometimes you want to convince yourself youβre lying, but i think sitting in those weird feelings and letting yourself admit that you really did go through trauma puts the power back in your hands to process things and be compassionate to yourself while you heal
A lot of people seem to mix up βcommunityβ with βfriend groupβ so when they read βno one should be abandoned by the community. No matter what they didβ they think it means βyou have to be friends with abusersβ. When in reality it means βno matter what someone does they shouldnt be left to go homeless and be denied financial, housing, medical, etc aidβ
You donβt have to be friends with these people, no one is saying that. Itβs just saying that you should support rehabilitative justice, support programs that help homeless people, support funding for free medical services, and make sure they donβt turn away anyone who needs help.
ID: a quote by Tupac Shakur: Just because you lost me as a friend, doesn't mean you gained me as an enemy. I'm bigger than that, I still wanna see you eat, just not at my table.
when i was younger some wires got crossed so now a fistfight and sex are one and the same to me
When I was in high school we did an english unit on Octavia Butler and the teacher told us hey btw. You should call her "Butler" in your essays. Sometimes students call female writers by their first names unconsciously, but that's not acceptable. If you wouldnt call them William or Ernest you shouldn't call her Octavia.
And I was like cool whatever I was gonna call her Butler anyways. But that moment has stuck with me for my whole life because once you start seeing ppl calling women by their first names where men would be called by their last names you literally never stop seeing it.
