Welcome to the Amazing Doraemon Circus. Based on a suggestion from @killdeercheer.
Piisuke [Doraemon] vs. Coo [From a Distant Ocean Came Coo]
(The bracket color names are just for thematic organization and are NOT representative of the candidates!)
Propaganda (if any) under the cut! Please be civil, and feel free to reblog!
Of course the two "boy raises a plesiosaur" anime end up pitted against each other.
Watching a new anime and— wait, is that a canonically left-handed character?!
Seriously though, I've barely seen anyone talk about A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace, but I'm enjoying it very much. Very funny yet surprisingly heartfelt show. There's probably a lot here that speaks to creatives, as well as folks in any field who are early in their careers. Not that I would know anything about that...
IT'S HERE!
THE 2026 DRAW DINOS DAILY CHALLENGE! #DRAWDINOSDAILY!
(Thank you to @vergess for the tag name!!!!)
Every day is a different dinosaur!
There is no pressure to draw or not to draw each day, if you tag a piece of art with this tag, I'll reblog it!
It doesn't have to be drawing either, if you want to write poetry or sculpt or whatever, if you tag it, I will reblog!
I'll also seek out stuff for each dinosaur for each day beyond that for the neverending queue monster
A more accessible version of the prompt list is also available here as a google doc for viewing:
But I know how much art prompt followers love a month card to add to things
I would like to thank @plokool, @albertonykus, @otussketching, @thetorterra, @raptorcivilization, @killdeercheer, @verybadpaleontologyjokes, and probably some other folks I'm forgetting for helping me come up with the prompt list without total loss of my remaining sanity, and also editing and proofreading it
(if you notice a typo, please tell me, I'm not proud)
Enjoy! I look forward to seeing what you all create!
An Ornithology and Biogeography question I’ve been thinking about, I wondered if you had any ideas
Why aren’t there any native crows (genus Corvus strictly, I know there are jays) in South America?
An explanation I read was that they would be outcompeted by toucans.
This sounds implausible, for several reasons, but especially because crows and toucans actually do overlap in range across Mexico and Central America .
Crows live in every corner of every other continent (besides obviously Antarctica), in every climate from the arctic to the Sahara to rainforests, including in various isolated islands such as Hawaii and New Caledonia.
Yet somehow they couldn’t get to South America?
It's a good question. I don't think there's likely to be anything about physical geography or climate that would prevent them from getting to South America, and ecological niche modeling has found that there are areas of potentially suitable habitat in South America for the pied crow, for example.
So my best guess is that it's for the same reason that there aren't any cranes in South America, which is to say that I haven't yet seen anyone come up with a well-substantiated answer.
Magnificent Bumstinger [Speculative Dinosaur Project] vs. Meiolania [Zoo Tycoon]
(The bracket color names are just for thematic organization and are NOT representative of the candidates!)
Propaganda (if any) under the cut! Please be civil, and feel free to reblog!
The magnificent bumstinger breathes underwater using feather-like extensions from its gut (colloquially called "arsegills"), which are venomous due to its diet of corals and sea anemones. Use that to inform your vote as you will...
One of the funniest things about the Nobita–Shizuka–Dekisugi dynamic is that Dekisugi is almost always enthusiastic about joining whatever Nobita has planned, whereas Shizuka has probably been burned enough times to be more guarded.
In fact, Dekisugi was fully (if understandably reluctantly) prepared to sit through a Gian concert with Nobita.
Meanwhile Shizuka:
Being a Doraemon fan is fucking awesome, my fandom is so big it’s even referenced in text books
Has a tons of high quality merch that are reasonably priced, new episodes every week with no hiatus, a movie every year with insane animation, tons of archives of ole movies and episodes and still have new editions of the manga to this day. Tons of great artists making breathtaking fanarts everyday I love my fucking life man🥹🥹🥹🥹
For character analyzers it’s even better because you don’t need to worry about missing out on manga or 1979 ver. anime because the characters tho structurally the same they are basically different people in terms of characterization and each version have its own canon settings :D
Fandom is alive for 50 years gang that’s some cool shit
