Nazli, Kemal and her mother are forced into exile by the villagers. As if these pains were not enough, the news of Ferdi's death comes. The reunion of these two lovers is now a miracle.

In 1931 Shostakovich wrote a full-length score for the Leningrad Music Hall, for a show that involved many of the leading entertainers of the day, as well as dancing girls, a jazz band, a dancing dog, sequences of silent film, simulated air-raids and gas attacks, a lorry, a storm, waiters and waitresses in a luxury restaurant, river nymphs and even a scene in Heaven with the Devil, the Twelve Apostles, the Archangel Gabriel and all the other angels doing a blasphemous knees-up. The show was naturally a momentary scandal and the score soon disappeared. In 1991 Gerard McBurney reconstructed from the surviving sketches a sequence of 21 of the orchestral numbers to make a hilarious sequence of gallops, saucy polkas, marches and schmoozy waltzes.

This domestic melodrama chronicles three generations of a family of music-hall owners. In the early 1900s, two variety stars, Kit Burns and Joe Swann, are staunch friends even when Kit marries Joe's dancing partner Evelyn. Joe fights in the Boer War where a bullet puts an end to his dancing days. He goes to work on the staff at Burns' Music Hall where Kit Jr. soon finds a place in his affections. Kit and Joe purchase the music hall and soon become a success.
The television adaptation of the 1954 play Silfurtúnglið by Hrafn Gunnlaugsson updates the interwar story of Lóa, a housewife with a beautiful singing voice who delights in serenading her newborn son. Discovered by the dubious Feilan, manager of the nightclub “Silver Moon,” she’s cast as his emblem of purity for the club’s jaded clientele, only to find her talent erased and her performances reduced to humiliation.
In the same production, Gunnlaugsson also modernizes Lilja’s 1933 short story “Fótatak manna,” relocating its 1920s setting to the present: medical students exhume the body of a poor, friendless man in the name of science, callously stuffing his coffin with rocks.
