Critics Consensus

Energetic, self-deprecating performances and enough guffaw-inducing humor make up for the flaws in This Is the End loosely written script.

There are some terrific one-liners, most of them insults...But this is a string of character gags, not a film, and the narrative barely putters along. Go to Full Review

With comedic crudeness levels that hit all kinds of wrong and leave very few stones unturned, "This Is the End" will either be something you can sit back and love for its audacity and parody or absolutely loathe for its vanity and stupidity Go to Full Review

Much of the movie goes by with almost nothing of significance happening beyond these actors goofing around together, and this is enjoyable until the formulaic plot takes over, and we lose interest. Go to Full Review

Matthew D @OceanSage 1d An idiotic Apocalypse with Hollywood’s favorite stoners. Directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s stoner comedy This Is the End (2013) is a total blast. I revisited this silly stoner classic. Directors Rogen and Goldberg deliver ridiculous references, constant celebrity cameos, and outrageously raunchy jokes. James Franco is funny as a selfish and narcissistic version of himself at his mansion with all his movie props. Him recreating Pineapple Express had me feeling nostalgic. Watching Franco die in this is still so satisfying. Jonah Hill too is such a sleazy creep here with some hilarious lines, like when he’s pretending to be super nice to Jay. Jay Baruchel is excellent as the normal Canadian friend to Seth Rogen’s Hollywood stoner, who has changed into a more selfish man. This Is the End is honestly Jay’s best acting, up there with Tropic Thunder. Danny McBride honestly steals the movie as a completely deranged and unhinged version of himself. See more Downriver R @Downriver Jan 6 One of the best and funniest comedy you'll ever watch. They just don't make them like this anymore. I'd put this movie up there with tropic thunder. I wish they'd make more of these types of comedys See more Aaron P Nov 24 A movie that for teenage viewers will love. Very old jokes and old story line! Only when you can't think of what else to watch, and it just happens to be on your DVR. One time watch is good. See more Read all reviews
