Great Sword
A weighty weapon with slower movement and attacks, but each blow packs a powerful punch. Suitable for hit-and-run tactics or even guarding, the Great Sword is highly adaptable.
Long Sword
A weapon that excels at swift movements and combos. With a sharp eye and good timing, you can counter incoming attacks. Landing certain attacks will raise the level of the Spirit Gauge—once the Spirit Gauge turns red, some of your attacks will be strengthened.
Sword & Shield
A weapon that boasts manoeuvrability and rapid attacks. You can use the shield both to guard and to attack. Unlike other weapons, you can still use some items while your weapon is drawn.
Dual Blades
A weapon designed for rapid attacks. Enter Demon Mode to boost the damage of your attacks. If you manage to fill the Demon Gauge by landing enough hits before yours stamina depletes, you will enter Archdemon Mode, which further boosts the damage of some attacks.
Hammer
A blunt weapon with destructive power and good mobility. Charge your attacks to make them more powerful. You can stun monsters by landing multiple hits to their head, which briefly leaves them open to even more attacks.
Hunting Horn
A blunt weapon that can perform buff-granting melodies to you and nearby allies. Perform a variety of combos to trigger different melody effects. You can also place Echo Bubbles that grant special effects within its area.
Lance
A weapon with top-class defence. The lance’s thrusting attacks are quick and safe to execute, while the shield provides great protection from incoming attacks. Combine the two to make effective use of its range of guard-related moves and counters.
Gunlance
A weapon with a long reach and the ability to fire explosive shells. Combine melee attacks with powerful, short-range shell-based blasts. Make tactical use of your shield and sidesteps to get within range, guard against powerful attacks and choose the right moment to strike.
Switch Axe
A multifaceted weapon that can morph between two different modes. Use Axe Mode to perform slower long-reach attacks that keep more distance between you and your target, or switch to Sword Mode for faster, close-range strikes.
Charge Blade
A versatile weapon that can morph between two different modes. Sword Mode allows you to manoeuvre yourself quickly and accurately, while Axe Mode is designed to inflict massive damage. Attacking in Sword Mode charges up phials that can be used to power up Axe Mode, opening up additional, incredibly powerful attacks.
Insect Glaive
A mobile weapon you use while controlling a creature known as a Kinsect. Deploy the Kinsect to harvest different types of extract from various parts of the monster. Each type of extract provides a buff; harvesting all three will trigger the most powerful buffs. Use the glaive itself to vault into the air and perform jumping attacks at will.
Light Bowgun
A mid-range weapon that can fire various ammo types and offers high mobility, making it great for quick attacks and dodges. Use Rapid Fire energy to fire in quick succession. Energy regenerates over time and when you successfully land hits.
Heavy Bowgun
A long-range weapon that fires ammo from a distance. Features an Auto-Guard function, but you can also guard incoming attacks manually. Expend energy in Ignition Mode to fire special ammo. Energy regenerates over time and when you successfully land hits.
Bow
A mid-range weapon that uses a variety of arrow-based attacks. Charge your arrows to increase their damage. The bow also boasts high mobility. Hitting a monster with a Tracer will cause arrows to home in on it. Tracers will explode after being dealt enough damage or after enough time passes.
Hunter
The protagonist and the customisable character you play as. A hunter assigned to the Forbidden Lands Research Commission, their job is to help investigate this unexplored region.
Palico
A Felyne—a cat-like creature fully capable of speaking with people—who is the hunter's trusted "Palico" partner. They'll provide invaluable hunting and moral support!
Alma
The hunter's "Handler"—one who manages monster hunt requests, permissions, and quests. She'll accompany you out on quests and provide valuable support and knowledge.
Gemma
A smithy with the Research Commission. She'll take care of all your weapon and armour crafting needs.
Nata
A mysterious young boy that accompanies you on your journey.
Olivia
A hammer-wielding member of the Hunter's Guild Forbidden Lands Expedition Team. She can assist the Hunter as a Support Hunter during quests, filling in an opening in your hunting party whether you’re playing solo or online.
Athos
An elite Long-Haired Palico assisting Olivia.
Fabius
A former hunter distinguished among the Guild. As a leader of the Hunter's Guild, he established the Forbidden Lands Research Commission after discovering Nata and took charge of forming each expedition unit.
Werner
Astrum Unit's Smithy. A physics and engineering specialist, and a leading mind in weapon technology.
Erik
Astrum Unit's Handler. An adroit biologist renowned throughout academia.
Arkveld
A monster known among the commission as the White Wraith, described as having unique chain-like appendages extending from its wings. A species long thought to have been extinct, its ecology remains shrouded in mystery.
Nu Udra
A mysterious monster also known as "The Black Flame" whose tales are passed down through generations by the people of Azuz.
Rey Dau
A Flying Wyvern that rules the Windward Plains as its apex predator. Can discharge electricity in powerful attacks, posing a threat to even the most experienced hunters.
Uth Duna
A Leviathan that rules the Scarlet Forest as its apex predator. It has adapted to water-rich environments and is sighted most often during the Downpour. It makes use of the moisture and its own bodily fluids to create a protective veil around itself.
Lala Barina
A Temnoceran that resides in the Scarlet Forest. Its thorax, which can be opened at will, resembles a rose in bloom.
Chatacabra
A large species of amphibians that use the adhesive quality of their saliva to affix stone to their forelimbs to power up their attacks.
Balahara
Desert-dwelling leviathans that use their supple, serpentine bodies to create quicksand traps for unwary prey.
Doshaguma
Rugged, territorial fanged beasts that exhibit an aggressive disposition and inhabit a large range. Sometimes observed in large packs.
Rompopolo
A brute wyvern that can spray toxic gas from the tip of its tongue and inject gas into the ground with its tail, causing noxious explosions to well up from underfoot.
Ajarakan
A fanged beast that will scrape its claws against its metal-infused carapace to create a red-hot, molten-like effect. The region's greatest threat becomes active during the Firespring.
Hirabami
A leviathan that inhabits the Iceshard Cliffs. The Hirabami is a uniquely dangerous foe with razor-sharp claws at its tail and a wind-catching membrane on its neck that allows it to float.
