A silk velvet 'şalvar' (baggy trousers) from Beypazarı (85 km W. of Ankara). Part of a traditional female ensemble, together with a long-sleeved vest ('cepken'). Made early 20th c. Front & rear are identical, with metallic thread embroidery & minuscule silver spirals. Featuring short legs, with strings at their ends, to be bound just beneath the knees. The down end of the şalvar’s bag is pulled up and fixed under the belt. (Inv.n° $al057 - Kavak Costume Collection - Antwerpen/Belgium).
