What started off as a holiday home in need of refurbishment on the edge of the Peak District has been charmingly and thriftily transformed into a richly layered, exuberantly colourful family house by a ballerina and her antique dealer partner

So what exactly is a medium blue? It’s a blue paint color that typically falls in the middle of the Light Reflectance Value (LRV) spectrum, which is typically defined as 40–60, but those numbers are up for interpretation. For the purposes of this list, I will include some medium blues that technically fall in the dark blue range (0–40 LRV) but don’t feel like a dark blue. According to interior designer Elena Frampton, the custom, modern pendant in the entryway “serves as a foreshadow to the juxtapositions to come as you experience the rest of the house.” The wall paint is Alaskan Husky by Benjamin Moore, establishing a pale gray-blue color narrative that threads throughout much of the home.

An easy-going, adaptable hue that exudes effortless sophistication.
