The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is a directive of the European Union which aims to align laws relating to accessible products and services across all EU Member States.
The goal of accessibility is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their abilities or disabilities, can independently and equitably access, use, and benefit from products, services, environments, and technologies, fostering an inclusive and respectful society.
The EAA will come into effect on 28 June 2025 (subject to certain transitionary timelines which may be implemented by each Member State). The EAA covers a wide range of products and services, including:
- Computers and operating systems
- ATMs, ticketing, and check-in machines
- Smartphones
- TV equipment related to digital television services
- Telephony services and related equipment
- Access to audio-visual media services
- E-commerce
More information about the EAA can be found on the European Commission website.
We understand that many of our EU customers will be impacted by the EAA and will need to ensure their consumer-facing websites meet minimum standards of accessibility. Powster is dedicated to supporting its customers on their EAA journey. We are actively working on improving the accessibility features of our products to match the standards set out in the EAA and WCAG 2.1, as well as ensuring that all Powster personnel are provided with suitable training on accessibility standards. If you have any questions about how Powster can assist with accessibility features, please reach out to your Powster Account Director.
