Campus Dining Updates: Holiday Hours and Culinary Workshop Seats

Husky Eats at Michigan Technological University announces the following closures in observance of the Fourth of July holiday:

  • Brkfst & Co — Closed on Friday, July 3. Regular hours resume on Monday, July 6. 
  • The Social House at Wadsworth Hall — Closed on Saturday, July 4. Regular hours resume on Sunday, July 5.

Few Seats Remaining in July Culinary Workshops!
Husky Eats still has a few available seats in our culinary workshops scheduled for July 8, 15 and 22. These workshops are hosted by executive chefs, and share cooking skills through hands-on learning opportunities open to all skill levels. 

The new workshop format offers participants a three-hour, hands-on experience focused on a specific dish and culinary technique, resulting in a final meal or product. Upcoming workshops feature chicken enchiladas, cake decorating and lake trout, providing practical skills and recipes participants can re-create at home.

Rozsa Center Closed Tomorrow

The Rozsa Center will be closed tomorrow, July 3, in observance of the Fourth of July holiday.

  • Normal summer building hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will resume on Monday, July 6.
  • The Rozsa Box Office will resume normal summer hours on Tuesday, July 7.

Zach Richards Named Assistant Hockey Coach

Michigan Tech hockey's head coach Bill Muckalt has named Zach Richards an assistant coach with the Huskies.

Richards comes to Houghton from the AHL, where he spent the 2025-26 season as the video coach with the Chicago Wolves, who advanced to the Calder Cup Finals. He has five years of college hockey coaching experience.

“We are thrilled to welcome Zach to Michigan Tech,” Muckalt said. “During the interview process, he clearly demonstrated that he will be a great fit and valuable asset to our hockey program. He will work closely with our goaltenders and also has an extensive background with video and analytics on top of his assistant coaching duties.”

Three Department of Psychology and Human Factors (PsyHF) faculty members and several Michigan Tech students recently returned from the 18th International Conference on Naturalistic Decision Making held last week on June 22-26 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

Faculty Elizabeth Veinott, Shane Mueller and Jason Harman were accompanied by three graduate students and one undergraduate student and gave several presentations concerning decision-making in the real world. 

The papers presented were:

  • “Using task diagrams to improve cognitive esports training” authored by Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors (ACSHF) graduate students Stanislaus Oshimeje and Nya McDougald, alum Kaitlyn Roose ’18 (M.S. Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors) and faculty Elizabeth Veinott.

  •  “Effective large scale collaboration during disaster response: North Dakota flood response” authored by faculty Elizabeth Veinott and Don Cox of Ping Identity.

  • “Risk foresight in AI-driven technologies: Comparing effects of structured premortem approaches” authored by alum Anusha Kannan ’24 ’26 (M.S. Ph.D. Applied Cognitive Science and Human Factors), ACSHF graduate student Katrina Carlson, and faculty Elizabeth Veinott and Shane Mueller.

Glass on Web mentioned Stephen Morse (MAE/CEGE) in a story about the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance’s Virtual Summer Summit. Morse presented on window glass design fundamentals and shared an update on a vacuum insulated glazing research project.

WZMQ 19 News reported that Michigan Tech promoted Zach Flener (ATH) to associate head coach of the men's basketball team after four seasons as an assistant coach.

The Daily Mining Gazette highlighted three Michigan Tech hockey student-athletes who were named American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Scholars. Luca Fasciano, Tyler Miller and Noah Reinhart earned the honor for maintaining at least a 3.75 GPA while meeting on-ice participation requirements.

Colorado’s Delta County Independent featured Michigan Tech alum Evan Bachman ’16 (B.S. Biological Sciences) in a story about his appointment to the adult primary care team at Delta Health.

Strength & Conditioning

This program is open to male and female athletes entering grades 6-12 as of Fall 2026. Nine-week collegiate-level strength and conditioning camp for athletes looking to improve their performance and fitness level to prepare for the upcoming season. The program includes (3) sessions per week in a varsity collegiate setting and SDC access to the Fitness Center (min. age 16), Multipurpose Room and the Pool during open recreation hours for the duration of the program. Days/Times Mondays/Wednesdays/Thursdays - 10:00am-11:00am (Middle School Athletes) Mondays/Wednesdays/Thursdays - 11:00am-12:00pm High School Athletes) Location SDC Varsity Weight Room (located on the far side of the SDC Multipurpose Room) What to Expect Lead by the MTU Strength & Conditioning staff, athletes will learn and develop proper training techniques in order to improve overall fitness, increase performance potential, and decrease the risk of injury.
