2017's Biggest Pet Health Threat

Every year people resolve to lose weight and exercise more. I can’t remember a year when it wasn’t on my list of things to do better. It will be a goal again this year…after my New Year’s Day dinner of black-eyed peas, cabbage and ham. Some traditions are just too important to overlook.
This year, instead of joining a gym or going on an unsustainable diet, why not pledge to move more with your dog? Obesity in dogs has reached epidemic proportions with 53.8% of them being overweight or obese. According to Petplan Veterinary Advisory Board member and founder of the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, Dr. Ernie Ward, “It’s no surprise that the biggest health threat to pets in 2017 is obesity.”

There's No Place Like Home for the #Holidays

Do you have travel plans for the holidays?  If you are leaving town, is your dog going with you?  I never like to have to be away from Bentley for very long.  I miss him and worry about him.  It’s the old saying that nobody can take care of your “children” as well as you.  We thought about traveling for Thanksgiving.  I’m not ashamed to say that the thought of Bentley not being with me for the holiday was a deciding factor.  After all, I’ve been saving his Merrick Thanksgiving Dinner for this special day.

Hot Cars Are Not Cool

If your email box is anything like mine, you are approached to sign petitions almost every single day.  I am very particular of the causes that I support.  I received one the other day that moved me to sign and to share with you here today.  Marianna Morris from PetPlan USA Pet Insurance sent me a letter asking me to help spread the word on a major problem.
Leaving your pet in a hot car is not cool.  Each year, without fail, innocent pets die in cars due to heat stroke.  If you are lucky enough to live where you are getting temperatures in the low 70’s, the temperature in your car can rise to 106˚ in as little as thirty minutes.  That is about the time it takes to run into the store to pick up a few items or a restaurant for a quick bite.  If you live in a warmer climate, the heat in your car becomes a deathtrap in even less time.

Indigo Fresh & Giveaway

Indigo dog dental treats by PetSafe
Bentley and Pierre have come to love our postal carriers.  After a few deliveries for them with boxes of goodies, they have decided the mail carrier and FedEx deliveryman are in fact, NOT chainsaw wielding murderers.  Obviously, that is just a dog urban legend.  Earlier this week, two boxes arrived full of indigo Fresh Floss Dental Bones, Fresh Dental Sticks, and minty Fresh Dental Sauce.  http://store.petsafe.net/  The boys were very intrigued (nosey) as I opened the boxes.  The conversation went something like this…
