An attractive miniseries based on the book of the same name by Charles Dickens. Although this is a miniseries, FX considers it a movie. This is the first major adaptation of the classic story since A Christmas Carol by Robert Zemeckis. Our own Rutger Hauer was initially supposed to play The Ghost of Christmas Future, but unfortunately passed away in 2019. Lenny Rush also played the role of Tiny Tim for two seasons at the Old Vic theater. He was born with a rare form of dwarfism called Spondyloepiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita (SED). For Guy Pearce this was his second time travel plot after The Time Machine.

This version is clearly not a movie for the whole family. The television channel FX is known for pushing boundaries, and that becomes noticeable in this miniseries halfway through the ride. This caused a lot of negative comments, but the promos and rating clearly stated that this version is not suitable for children. The controversy was particularly apparent in scenes such as a boy pissing on Marley and Scrooge's grave, or Mary Cratchit agreeing to have sex with Scrooge in a desperate attempt. This in exchange for money to pay for the costs of Tiny Tim's operation. The vulgar language was also not appreciated by the film. Personally, I did enjoy myself. Only I found the scenes with The Ghost of Christmas Past too long-winded, and the scenes with The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Future were not fully developed. It's a pity that this version is up to date has not received a DVD release.
