Nice.

But don't expect anything more than a pure genre film. What Keeps You Alive does have a little surprise here and there, but not such that a non-enthusiast will see much in it. It is mainly the way Minihan plays with the clichés of the genre, without really going against them.

It is mainly the execution that scores points with this film. Although it is fairly predictable, it is still quite exciting. Nicely acted, nice environment, a few tight scenes and even though the characters don't always take the most logical decisions, that's not too surprising given the situation.

The film balances somewhere between thriller and horror, although it scores mainly as a thriller. If you really expect scares of gore, it's better to ignore it. Those who want a tightly directed thriller, without too many frills, but made with love and conviction, can do little wrong with this film.

3.5*

More and more slack.

What Keeps You Alive is an entertaining snack that definitely keeps the viewer hooked, but not thanks to any originality. In fact. It's almost amazing how such a predictable film still manages to hold the attention. That may be due to a rather unexpected twist at the beginning of the film, which (sensible) viewers will appreciate skipping trailers and plot descriptions best. This sharpens all senses and the cat and mouse game can begin.

The low budget doesn't detract from the thrillers in any way, but it doesn't leave much else. If you have to rest on the content, it can all be put together a bit more ingeniously. The acting performances are reasonable, the wooded environment is welcome, but in the mediocre second half of the film, the film goes off the rails several times and the decisions of the main characters become more illogical and the rest of the story becomes more and more weak. And that's a bit of a downer after the fun start.

**½

Once again a thriller that has been unfairly placed in the horror box. If I'd known this, I wouldn't have even watched it. Was in the mood for a good horror, but I end up with a mediocre thriller. Unfortunately.

About the film itself, well another 12 in a dozen thriller. Same storyline as all other thrillers, same illogical actions, same shit.

You keep watching from the beginning, there is enough happening, but at the same time very predictable.

1 star for the acting of Jules, the woman with the short hair. The others really couldn't act.
