The sequel to (but not a sequel to) The Father focuses on Peter [Hugh Jackman], a hard-working, successful businessman who receives a cry for help from his ex-wife Kate shortly after the birth of his second son [Laura Dern]. Their teenage son Nicholas [Zen McGrath] has been out of school for weeks and she can't seem to reason with him. When Nicholas says he thinks he'll be happy living with his dad, Peter can't bring himself to reject his son, no matter how hard it is for Peter's current wife Beth [Vanessa Kirby] and the son she lives with. just gave birth. Peter's struggle with his teenage son also brings back memories of the troubled relationship he had as a teenager with his own father [Anthony Hopkins]. Zeller emphatically telephones how this will turn out and although parents can sometimes stare blindly at the shortcomings of their children, it is difficult to understand the decisions they make. Well acted, but the screenplay (just like The Father based on Zeller's actual play) is not convincing enough.

A nice film with a lot of emotions. Too many emotions in my opinion, a slower film with more depth would have been even better.

Nice film about a father whose teenage son is quite confused with himself. Not exactly a happy film, but a number of good scenes (mainly due to the good acting). Melodramatic at times and here and there it's all a bit over the top. Just not 3.5 stars.
