Today, we’re introducing the Waymo World Model. Built on Google DeepMind’s Genie 3, this frontier generative model sets a new bar for large-scale, hyper-realistic autonomous driving simulation. Its combination of broad world knowledge, fine-grained controllability, and multi-modal realism enhances Waymo’s ability to safely scale our service across more places and new driving environments. https://lnkd.in/ginsyFjE

Today I had the honor of testifying before the Senate Commerce Committee on the future of autonomous vehicles. At Waymo, safety isn’t just a goal; it’s a moral imperative. We’ve now completed nearly 200 million fully autonomous miles and 20 million lifetime rides. The data shows we are making streets safer in the cities where we operate. In fact, the data from our first 127 million miles shows the Waymo Driver is involved in 10x fewer serious injury crashes and 12x fewer pedestrian injury crashes compared to human drivers. Our success is built on our rigorous Safety Framework and a governance structure with three layers of accountability that ensures every mile we drive is backed by a robust safety case. With 40,000 preventable deaths annually in the U.S., we have a moral imperative to tackle this public health crisis. Grateful to Chairman Cruz, Ranking Member Cantwell, and the Committee for the opportunity to discuss how we can make American roads safer for everyone.
