Advanced semiconductor manufacturing depends on permanent magnets. These magnets are used in chip printing machines, vacuum pumps, precision actuators, and wafer-positioning systems. Today, global neodymium-based permanent magnet production is heavily concentrated overseas. SandboxAQ is using our software platform and Large Quantitative Models to screen magnet chemistries that reduce or eliminate reliance on neodymium and other heavy rare earth elements. Our work targets materials that can support precision semiconductor equipment while lowering barriers to domestic commercialization. Semiconductor fabs require uninterrupted, precisely controlled local power. Even short disturbances can force tool shutdowns, reduce wafer yields, and create costly downtime. Many backup power systems depend on battery materials and chemical precursors concentrated overseas. SandboxAQ is building on AQVolt workflows that have screened more than 150,000 candidate compositions, identified promising cobalt-free cathode materials, and discovered a novel cryolite-type solid-state electrolyte now the subject of a pending patent application. Our goal is to accelerate development of battery systems that can support critical manufacturing infrastructure using domestically accessible materials. What if researchers could evaluate promising materials before they are ever synthesized? SandboxAQ has been awarded $500 million through the CHIPS R&D program to help tackle one of the biggest challenges facing semiconductor production: developing the critical materials and manufacturing processes needed to build a more resilient U.S. semiconductor industry and supply chain. In this video, SandboxAQ scientists explain how Large Quantitative Models combine physics, chemistry, mathematics, and AI to accelerate materials discovery across catalysts, PFAS-free process chemicals, rare earth-free magnets, and battery systems – all of which are critical for semiconductor manufacturing and other advanced technologies. The race is now about speed. The companies and countries that can discover, validate, and commercialize new materials faster will help set the pace for the semiconductor industry. Traditional materials discovery is often too slow for the demands of AI hardware, advanced computing, and power electronics. Large Quantitative Models combine physics-based simulation with machine learning to help researchers evaluate materials at a scale that would otherwise be impractical. The objective is straightforward: compress the timeline from discovery to commercialization. Read the full blog post here: https://lnkd.in/e6iWMkGN

The new White House Executive Order makes clear that the U.S. must move beyond a purely defensive stance on quantum threats and instead harness quantum technologies to drive economic growth, accelerate scientific discovery, and strengthen national competitiveness. That shift is already taking shape through platforms built on the convergence of quantum and AI, where hybrid CPU–GPU–QPU architectures enable powerful computation today while creating a seamless path to integrate quantum hardware as it matures. By combining quantum simulation, AI, and high-fidelity data generation, this approach is delivering real breakthroughs across industries, from drug discovery to advanced materials. This moment presents a critical opportunity for U.S. leadership, but realizing it will require coordinated investment across cryptography, infrastructure, data, and applications, along with strong collaboration between government, industry, and academia. At the same time, the next wave of AI, bringing together Large Language Models and Large Quantitative Models, is opening new ways to solve complex, real-world challenges and broaden access to innovation. SandboxAQ's Tanner Kirk delivered an invited plenary talk at the Car Body Parts 2026 conference yesterday, presenting Large Quantitative Models (LQMs) as a new class of AI-driven tools for alloy engineering. His talk covered SandboxAQ's approach to linking process parameters, microstructure, and performance into a unified simulation framework, with case studies in aluminum tensile property prediction and knowledge graphs for manufacturing decision support. Car Body Parts, organized by Automotive-Circle, drew engineers and executives from Audi/Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Stellantis, as well as major material producers, component suppliers, and engineering service providers. Topics ranged from alloy design and recycled alloy integration to forming processes and co-optimization of manufacturing feasibility with in-service crash performance. SandboxAQ is already collaborating with Fortune 500 companies and government organizations. By combining LQMs and knowledge-driven AI, our platform helps customers shorten development timelines, optimize processing conditions, and rapidly qualify new materials for mission-critical applications.

Executive Order 14409 is signed. Federal agencies now have until 2030 to inventory their cryptography and migrate to post-quantum standards. The bigger problem: most organizations don't know what they're running. The EO specifically calls out adversaries that are already harvesting encrypted data to decrypt later. "This Executive Order marks a new era in America's cyber defense posture. We must harden our defenses against quantum threats now." -Jack Hidary, CEO, SandboxAQ The science moved first. Now, the policy just caught up. Read our analysis → https://lnkd.in/eAkQgqSP

The White House’s landmark Executive Order on quantum readiness signals a turning point in how organizations must prepare for a rapidly approaching technological shift. At SandboxAQ, we see this as a call to action. With the recent research disclosures from Google and Caltech, quantum computing is no longer a theoretical construct on a distant horizon. Its implications, especially for cybersecurity, data integrity, and critical infrastructure, are profound – and imminent. Preparing for a post-quantum world requires not only advanced cryptography, but a new level of coordination between government, industry, and innovation leaders. While today’s Executive Order underscores the growing urgency, SandboxAQ has been helping large enterprises and government agencies accelerate their quantum readiness for the past several years. Our scientific and technical leadership puts us in the vanguard to defend against these impending quantum threats and enable a safer, more secure quantum future.
