What happens when you train an AI model not on language, but on the structured events of a patient's medical journey? The same thing: it gets better with scale. Seth Hain breaks down the largest structured medical event model in the world with NEJM AI.

How can a health care software company develop trustworthy clinical AI tools that help patients?     Seth Hain, senior vice president of research and development at Epic, describes how his company is building foundation models that respect institutional autonomy, minimize burden, and prioritize safety.     In this episode of AI Grand Rounds, he discusses scaling laws in structured medical data, cautious deployment for clinical interventions, and why understanding causality — not just correlation — is essential.   This conversation with hosts Arjun Manrai, PhD, and Andrew Beam, PhD, reframes AI not as disruption, but as infrastructure for safer, more reliable care.   Listen to the full episode: https://nejm.ai/ep39   #ArtificialIntelligence #AIinMedicine

Patients who consistently engage with their MyChart become active partners in their care, helping drive better outcomes for both themselves and the hospitals where they are seen, such as proactive outreach for screenings to manage preventable issues or paying bills through MyChart for quicker financial returns.    The MyChart Diamonds program recognizes organizations who have achieved excellence in enabling the key features and sustaining a high level of usage across specific areas, including patient activation rates, patient communication, and self-scheduling, among 10 total diamonds available.    Achieving MyChart Diamonds represents a significant commitment to patient-centered care and planning. Parkview Health is the first organization to achieve 7-diamond status. Congratulations! We can’t wait to see who joins them and who can be the first to 8!

Baking news! It’s National Croissant Day. Crust me when I say our croissants are butter than anyone else’s, which explains why the Culinary team serves over 200,000 croissants in a year. They often don’t have leftovers, but if they do, they are donated or put out as snacks for even more people to enjoy.

CGH Medical Center migrated to Epic from their 20-year-old legacy system, and their quick transition to Epic using the Launchpad AI Starter Kit helped them explore additional ways to enhance workflows. One notable success was that in the first eight weeks of being fully live, Epic AI pulled out discrete findings from notes to identify 310 incidental radiology findings and prompted follow-ups with patients. As CGH’s Director of Health Informatics Jolee Parks put it: “You don’t have to necessarily pilot in areas and start small.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/gt8yDrPN

The first international implementation of Cheers - Campaigns recently went live in Saudi Arabia at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare (JHAH).  Early detection can save lives, so it’s essential to make eligible patients aware of the recommended healthcare practices, screenings, and treatments. Cheers helps organizations reach their patient population with tailored messages to remind them to schedule or complete preventative care visits.  Through Cheers, JHAH ensured that patients could receive outreach messages in their preferred language of Arabic or English to close the gap in screening uptake. Since go-live, patients who otherwise would not have been scheduled completed their mammograms and cervical screenings.
