I just watched Drata’s CTO push back on the AI productivity hype with actual data. What he said will completely flip how you think about using AI at work. At our Enrich conversation last week, Daniel Marashlian, CTO and co-founder of Drata, didn't hold back when the topic of AI productivity came up. One of our members had asked how AI is changing the way he thinks about team size and output. We’re constantly hearing the same directive from companies adopting AI: do more with less, cut headcount, and AI will pick up the slack. Daniel's response: "I disagree with that." While some companies may immediately claim incredibly high numbers from AI output, Drata’s team actually measured what happens when you go all-in on AI So what does the real number actually look like? They evaluated 7 different AI coding assistants and chose Augment. They then got 100% of their developers using it daily. The real productivity gain? 20%. But here's what surprised me: Daniel thinks that's huge. He's not scaling back, he's doubling down. He built a dedicated 2-person team just to train engineers to rethink their development process around AI. His goal by August: 2X their output from 9,000 story points per quarter to 18,000. How? By making every engineer radically more productive. The honesty here matters. I’ve seen boards that are pushing the notion of "do more with less” and tech CEOs hyping up impossible productivity gains. So now most engineering leaders are stuck wondering what's real. Daniel's answer: Stop chasing the hype and start measuring what works. Drata hit $100M ARR in under 4 years. The company is now in its fifth year, and Daniel still reviews code, still debugs production incidents, and still calls out inflated AI stats when he sees them. That's the kind of honesty this industry needs more of. Thanks to Daniel for the candid conversation and Steve for asking the hard questions.
