If leading a room in an impromptu (and slightly embarrassing) "Happy Birthday" song is what it takes to build community, I’ll do it every single time. Sorry/not sorry! 😂🎂🎤 In all seriousness, these Generalist World 🌀 meetups in Austin have become my favorite monthly ritual. Some networking events feel like work, but these feel like home. Thank you Allison for orchestrating these month after month! Why I keep coming back: ✨ The Deep Support: It’s a space where we can be real about our challenges one minute and celebrate a major win the next. ✨ The Connections: Watching people offer intros or help each other navigate the job hunt is exactly what "supporting deeply" looks like in practice. ✨ The Flow: Meeting new friends who feel like old ones - where the conversation is so good we don't even need the icebreaker cards anymore. We’re building more than just a "network" here; we’re building a support system for the long haul. So grateful for this crew and the energy everyone pours into this space. 💞 If you’re in ATX and looking for squiggly career generalists, you’ve found them!! Hope to see you at the next one! 🌀✨ Check out Genralist World global events for a meetup near you! https://lnkd.in/gWXFbTxE #GeneralistWorld #AustinTech #CommunityFirst #ATXEvents #HumanConnection #CareerGrowth

Our Austin Generalist World 🌀 meet-ups are starting to really feel like ✨ a community ✨ Last night just felt good for the soul. We welcomed new members, celebrated new jobs, and Jess P. embarrassed me by leading everyone in singing Happy Birthday. We are in Austin — and I watched people chat about wanting to move to Australia, with multiple people saying "oh, I have someone there I can connect you with!" Watching our group support each other — connecting people on the job hunt, talking through ways to ease into AI if it makes you nervous — it's clear we're really building something for the long run. I hope people continue to give their time and energy to this space. Shout out to Buddhima K., who helped plan this month's event, even though he wasn't able to attend. 💜 As usual, we had our curated conversations to help spark purposeful discussions. But honestly? We really don't need them anymore. The conversation flows so easily with Kristin Collins, MA, MSc Stephanie S. Lyssa Myska Zotlen (Allen) Tammy Lynn Gilmore and Kc Washington. One of the things that makes GW special is that we are a global community, and Lucy Nersesian just happened to be in town from Vermont to join this month's meet-up. An extra treat! Hope to see you at an event this year. 🙌

Even my parents can't explain what I do. And honestly, for a long time neither could I. Then I found Generalist World 🌀 and had one of those "oh thank goodness it's not just me" moments. Turns out there's a whole community of people who think across systems, translate complexity, move between domains. They just needed a name for it. Apparently so did I. Took the archetype quiz. Came out a Systems Thinker — which explains a lot about why I see organisations the way I do. I spot the patterns, the disconnects, the thing underneath the thing that's actually causing the problem. If you've ever felt like your career doesn't have a clean narrative, maybe it doesn't need one. Maybe it's just a different kind of intelligence. Anyone else? What's your archetype? 👇

Ooooh today is one of my favourite days of the year!!! Is it my birthday? Did I spend the day nerding out in an historical archive? Nope. (I was gardening… send help 🌱😂) Today the doors of Generalist World 🌀 open, and it’s honestly one of my favourite moments — meeting so many new generalists. This cohort we’re welcoming 200 (!!) new zig-zag humans 🤯 And yes… I’ll be back as a community guide again. Apparently I’ve been dubbed the OG community guide by Ece, which I’m very tempted to add to my LinkedIn profile 😌 Just like previous cohorts, I’ll be snooping (lovingly!) through profiles — because there’s nothing more fun than discovering people’s weird, wonderful paths and connecting the dots between them. Generalist World is my home. It’s a space where we: ~ see zig-zag careers as valuable (and cool!) ~ make room for new, interesting, slightly scary ideas ~ gather as humans — not just profiles or transactions ~ get to be nerdy, geeky, WHOLE selves (bring all your interests!) So come as you are. You’ll probably get pulled into a few unexpected adventures anyway 😉 Have questions? Curious? Want to chat? Reach out to me, Milly, Ece or Mildred C. or our amazing other community guides: Ady, Alana, Chavi, Clara, Dimitra, Emilie, Jessica, Jon, Sam, Shern, Valeria and Yeswanth Also… if you see a profile picture with a certain motorcycle 🏍️ That’s probably me. We'll see you on the other side 🌀

Today my fingers sent 200+ DMs before 11am & even though many will roll their eyes like 'girlll use AI' it's the BEST use of my time because.... I'm building community. We're not a SaaS or faceless corporation. Generalist World 🌀 is a collective of people. And each time we open our doors, I quite literally go and check everyone's LinkedIn profiles. I personally read their waitlist application form. I scope out fit. And if I think the fit is fantastic, I strike up a convo. If I'm not sure, I still strike up a convo to ask more questions. (This means I have hundreds of DM convos running concurrently which means I take LOTS of walks in the forest to balance hehe) It's not a coincidence the people who join Generalist World *all* seem to have the same spirit of generosity, soundness and squiggly-ness It's a community where we: ~ see your zig-zags as incredibly valuable + cool!! ~ create space for new, interesting, scary ideas to blossom ~ gather as humans, w/out the algo or transactional intentions ~ get to be nerdy, geeky, WHOLE selves (bring all your interests!) If you've had a zig-zag, non-linear, non-traditional, impossible-to-explain-career - DM me! I'll be there all day 😂 let's chat to see if GW might be able to become your superpower this year

We just hosted our first official Generalist World 🌀 meetup last week in Singapore! Honestly didn't know what to expect. But the group that showed up? So diverse and genuine in their sharing. All very much "generalist-coded". By the end of the night, the people who stayed merged into one big huddle. Talking about what it means to be a generalist in Singapore. Someone brought up how hard it is to own being a generalist because soft skills aren't really valued the way technical skills are. But in today's work, being able to connect dots across different areas, communicate well, facilitate conversations - that matters so much. Another person mentioned how kids are stressed about failure from such a young age. Forced to pick a path before they even know who they are. No room to experiment. I personally learnt to lean into experimentation only in my mid 20s. But we also recognise that we are also a more privileged and affluent generation that has the freedom and safety net to fail, whereas our parents and grandparents may not. On the same thread, even trying to host community events is an experiment for me! It's been super fun and fulling, and I can finally use the super power of remembering small details about people to good use. :D It initially felt scary to do this alone, but I'm so glad Kavishni volunteered to co-host with me after our mini meetup last November. We're already thinking about the next one, stay tuned! DM me if you want to join the next one. 👊🏻

Today the doors open to Generalist World 🌀’s March cohort, and this time, I am especially excited because I will be one of the Community Guides welcoming new joiners settle in. If you had told me a few years ago that I would proudly identify as a generalist, I probably would have hesitated. My professional identity was rooted in being a specialist, having spent many years deepening and refining my financial analysis expertise across roles in financial services. But over the past year, as I focused more on coaching and built my own practice, I became increasingly aware that I no longer fit neatly into one box. What I had always noticed in the background, being drawn to new ideas and different disciplines, became something more intentional. At times, I even questioned it, wondering if I was just ‘too unfocused’ and asking myself why I did keep getting interested in new things. And then, almost by chance, I came across Generalist World and after being a mailing list subscriber for a while, I joined the community as soon as the doors opened, last September. Inside, I found people with incredibly diverse paths, some in roles I did not even know existed. A culture of generosity, where members support each other through career moves, fractional transitions, new projects, even podcast opportunities. It expanded my sense of what is possible and gave me the confidence to lean further into curiosity as a strength. This is why stepping into a Community Guide role now feels especially meaningful. I am looking forward to supporting new members settle in and contributing to a space that has already shaped my own journey. And to Milly Tamati, Ece Kurtaraner, Mildred C., thank you for building something that makes multidimensional careers feel not only valid, but powerful. If you are joining us this week, see you on the inside.

MY SUPERRRR TOP SECRET SALES STRATEGY: cute letters > sales emails Tomorrow Generalist World 🌀 opens our community doors for the first time of 2026. With 1600+ on the waitlist (🤯), I'm anticipating we won't need to send a single email to our beehiiv base of 47,000, or even do a social campaign post (^^ who knows, maybe I'll eat my words 🤣) But my goal of this week is to move away from what I think selling *should* be, and toward how I feel selling *could* be: Kind. Grounded. Calm. Welcoming. Warm. Funny. Accessible. I see sales as just an invitation. Simply offering a group of people who would really benefit from what you're offering, to come on in. This is a peek of my "sales email #1" which is literally more like a cute lil love letter lol. And my inbox is already FLOODING with responses (honestly generalists are the best!!!) 🤐 All going well, you won't hear another word about this on socials until we're on the other side (which will be at ~200 new members MAX!) I'm SOOO excited to welcome our new folks tomorrow! And an EXTRA SPECIAL thank you to our community guides who are really the stewards of the space, and who will be helping onboard and welcome our new members: Ady Coles Alana Goh Chavi P. Clara Mastronardi Dimitra Sotiraki Emilie Perreault Jessica L. Jon Saltzman Sam Ervin Shern Tee, PhD Valeria Collu Vera Lakmaker Yeswanth Swami. WE APPRECIATE YOU! It's going to be a special week! Lotsa love the GW team, Ece Kurtaraner + Mildred C. 💛

You're getting left behind with AI. This is how Generalist World 🌀 are solving that. Staying up to date with AI is overwhelming; it's all moving so fast. The best way to keep up is to come together with people who are figuring it out too, share what you've built, your insights, experiments, advice and knowledge. Everyone interacts with these tools differently, and that's what expands our collective understanding and keeps us all moving forward. We had our first AI & No-code meetup this week. ↳ Milly Dyer showed how she uses Dust to manage her AI workflows ↳ Vera Lakmaker walked us through context engineering and her experience with OpenClaw ↳ Sarah shared how she uses Perplexity's browser Comet ↳ I showed off Bob, the Job Tracking Agent built in Zapier Context engineering is about deliberately shaping what information you give an AI, when you give it, and how you structure it. Get it right and your outputs improve dramatically without changing the tool at all. This meetup is about people sharing what they've actually built and where they got stuck. These sessions are happening again. I'm already looking forward to the next one. Thanks to everyone who joined and Milly Tamati for spearheading it. Lets not get left behind. What are you building with AI right now, and what do you wish you understood better?
