Who are Ghost?

Ghost are a theatrical Swedish rock band formed in 2006, known for their elaborate stage presence, anonymous members, and a sound that fuses heavy metal, hard rock, and pop melodies.

The band was founded by Tobias Forge, the mastermind behind the music and lyrics who has operated under various frontman personas including Papa Emeritus and Cardinal Copia, each with a distinct look and storyline. Forge is the only publicly known member, the rest are masked Nameless Ghouls.

Musically, Ghost draw on a wide array of influences, from Blue Oyster Cult and Black Sabbath, through to ABBA. Their tracks are laced with satanic themes and religious satire, contrasted with lush harmonies, soaring choruses, and polished production.

Ghost's popularity surged around the release of Meliora in 2015, earning the band their first Top 40 placing on the UK Official Albums Chart (Number 23) and slots at major UK festivals like Download and Bloodstock.

2018 album Prequelle gave Ghost their first taste of Top 10 success in the UK, and kicked off a string of consecutive Top 10 placings in the years that followed, including two Number 2s with 2022's Impera and 2025's Skeleta.
