Notes:
- The full text and images of this edition are available at The Internet Archive.
- Primary Verification done from those scanned images.
- Information primarily from the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore.
- Publication month uncertain, but the July 19, 1845 edition of Poe's Broadway Journal advertised this publication.
- According to eapoe.org, there was an advertisement in the June 20 issue of the New York Daily Tribune stating the book would appear "Next Wednesday", i.e. June 25. Another advertisement in the Daily Tribune of June 26 says that it is available.
- First issue indicated by advertisements beginning with "Poetical Fortune Teller".
- "Price, Fifty Cents" on front
- The first English edition was created using the American sheets and a cancel title page using a London imprint and a new date.
- See the notes and these scans of the wrappers and title page and TOC.
- The link above to scans of the book say "The covers shown were used only for copies issued in paper wrappers." Those scans show the 50¢ price. The book may also have been released as a hc edition, for which we do not have sufficient information to list separately. Christie's Auction House shows a hard-cover copy with an elaborately decorated leather cover. This copy specifies that it was "Designed & Bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, London". However, since its title page indicates a New York printing, this may have been an independent binding contracted by the owner after the purchase.
- Reginald, below, indicates a cloth binding.
- "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" is incorrectly listed as starting on page 119 in the table of contents.
