Who will take over the fight from this man? He is almost 90. I really hope there are others like him digging for "state secrets".
Anyway the revelations in this documentary, although most already common knowledge, are enough to make your blood boil all over again.
I had seen the Vietnam atrocities mostly in movies like Apocalypse Now, The Deer Hunter, Full Metal Jacket, Platoon. And that's where I remember them most vividly. And I'd heard of American soldiers mindlessly torturing Muslim prisoners, abroad and domestically. It's been in global news. Shocking how it's all brushed over after a while and no culprits are identified. Even the sentences are revoked.
Henry Kissinger's death made global news. Screw that guy. I also remember Rumsfeld's name from a few years back. The various American presidents, they don't give a crap about their citizens or human rights, they're all on a constant power trip or in a popularity contest.

I really had doubts this was gonna be a good movie as people claimed in the beginning with how it starts and it takes a little for the wheels to start turning properly and to build a little depth and layers to the characters and the story, I mean the terrorists start out as unhinged maniacs and the KCIA guy is all over the place as well and I thought oh no two hours of this?
But it became twisty-turney and I started to like it and it kept momentum right up to the end.
It's still a little too long and the beginning is not the best but it's a good one overall.
Also, why are the men so good-looking in this movie? Movie magic right? The pilots are good-looking, the terrorist chief is, the air controller, the Japanese deputy minister, of course in their own different way but come on... Can't say I minded though, but it was staring me in the face. These are actors.
Anyway, the politics of power and shifting blame and accountability are used for laughs and it is funny but also upsetting at the same time. Both on the Korean domestic front and between the three nations. Geopolitics is crazy. Everybody agreeing to pretend things didn't happen. So how come we now know?

I cannot with all the religious BS. Christian drama? Is that a genre?
Why did I ever watch this? Cause it's leaving Netflix and apart from the synopsis which I thought could be interesting, why not, I didn't bother to check anything else. Yes, this does not deserve a watch, it's a complete waste of time, why did these leads agree to act here? Are they desperate for a buck or what?
First off, there is some annoying and frequent voice-over in the most god-awful Southern accent. It gives you that unpleasant skin-crawling preachy feel. Only ultra-religious Americans could watch this and like it really.
Then the fact that the exploration of the title theme is not the main focus of the movie. That appears towards the very end. We spend at least half the movie watching this sorry man be miserable and depressed in bed and being awful to his wife and kids. That's the bulk of the movie. And sure Hayden Christensen contorts his face every which way but my god was it boring... Also seeing the pictures and footage of the real people at the end - it's criminal to have Kate Bosworth playing this woman. Only mindless faith or a lack of alternative would keep a gorgeous woman tied to such an awful man. Well, awfully full of himself. I mean look, that story of the pearly gates is as old as time. A lot of people say they've had that experience. The appetite for that troubles me. This man made a career of travelling the world to tell that story. People are so gullible...
