The hate on here is unreal. This was an awesome movie. I'm a fan of Sadie Sink and going from Stranger Things to The Whale to this, she's got diverse talents. This post-apocalyptic musical was fun. Yes, there are some weak plot points, but the movie deserves to be watched and loved. I was quite surprised to see Sadie singing so much and so well. It's a long way away from her angry character in The Whale. The story, the love, the singing, the setting, the costumes, the music, the concept, they're great. Where the plot is thin, this reminds me of the 1984 movie and even Dune. In a long book, you can explain everything. In the movie versions, you can only skim through the main details. Or make it very long. This movie works. Definitely watch it.
The first five season followed the books quite accurately, for a TV series based on a book. This season faltered. No other reviewer has written about this season's deviation from the books, so here it is.
I've been reading the books since last year. Just finished them. I watched this season shortly after reading the book.
There's lots of detail of online chats in the book. While it's fair enough to leave that out of the TV show, they should have shown bits of it, especially as it's how Strike and Ellacott solved the case. They left out key details about how they realised who the bad guy is.
They changed who was surveilling Strike's ex's husband. They changed the story about the boyfriend and the phone and what happened afterwards.
They changed how Strike worked out the online names and pieced it together. There's little in the TV show to reveal how they worked out who it was. If I hadn't read the books, I doubt I'd have understood it.
This augurs poorly for S7.

Believe it or not, I've watched all seasons so far. This show is not funny. There's probably one joke in the entire series. 'You're wasted on reception.' 'No, honestly, I don't even drink...' That's it.
The characters are unbelievable, it's not satirising anything. There is so much good humour and comedy in the world, there are so many funny series. This is not one of them. The stories aren't interesting or engaging. The characters suck. I don't even smile watching this. The only thing I'll give it any credit for is that it's cringe, like The Office is cringe. You're more watching it cringing than laughing. It's just awkward. But The Office did it better, and years ago. Don't try and remake that. Be better. Sad.
