I was not familiar with any of the 3 leads and found them all to be excellent. Hassie Harrison seems like a young slightly prettier Jennifer Lawrence and that is a huge compliment. Jai Courtney was terrific as the villain He delivered some great speeches and in one scene channeled his inner Buffalo Bill to great success. Josh Heuston was also new to me and he had great charm and elicited tons of empathy in his role. About 15 minutes in I was thinking, "OK, now what are they going to do with this setup." It seemed like it would be claustrophobic and limited with where it could go. Was I ever wrong. Kudos to Sean Byrne for a great script and solid direction that really kept he tension high. Most of you are going to see this when it lands on Shudder. I think it is not going to be as great as on a bigger screen for sure. I would have rated this higher, but an 8 and up film is somewhat exceptional. Comes very close, but I think I will have forgotten the film in a year or two and that kept my score a 7. Try to catch it at your theater if you can.
I have not seen a more clever film in years. I have seen many better ones, but this is so fun. If you ask me, the ones that are panning this film got lost. Cause that is very very easy to do. I am surprised this is not more highly rated . Maybe I gave it a 9 cause I had low expectations. Rotten Tomatoes had this list of the top 100 horror films this year. I had told my daughter that we had seen every one on the top 20 besides this one. (Actually I did not watch the V/H/S Beyond Anthology but she had). So we watched it on Netflix and both loved it. The cast were all excellent. I cannot believe the IMDB rating is below a 7. I really do not want to reveal anything about the plot. I just want to say what the title of my review says. Clever.
I do not think it will happen, but I sure hope a sequel is in the works. Ad that is the main reason for my review. I really hope more people watch it and boost the rating. Please do a sequel.

The story this movie tells is fantastic and heart wrenching. The acting is superb. At times the director makes brilliant choices. Ok done with the good stuff.
What a train wreck. Seriously. I think this director has a great future, but he threw everything into this film but the kitchen sink. I hated the hand held shaky cam stuff. Why did he do that? It tended to be more shaky early in the film so it kind of set me off early and the story and acting had to win me back. The way POV was utilized throughout was very distracting. We are seeing everything unfold through the character on the screens eyes. At times it is really confusing. The camera is the character. No normal film type interactions at all. Sure if works from time to time, but overall it is annoying. The set up to when Elwood gets in trouble is very long and not well constructed. I have not read the novel but I would guess it has a section about the (limited?) legal process that occurs. It would have been a nice touch. Loved some of the odd montages. Hated others. I still gave it a 7., for the gripping story this film tells, but man ,what a weird film.
