Neil Gaiman Wants Trans Writers To Work On Netflix’s The Sandman
Neil Gaiman is renowned as one of the greatest contemporary fantasy writers. Though primarily known to audiences for American Gods, Doctor Who and Coraline, he made a name for himself with his DC/Vertigo comics series The Sandman. This centered upon The Endless, god-like personifications of various universal concepts. The protagonist is Dream, with his brothers and sisters embodying things like Death, Despair, Destiny, Delirium, Desire and Destruction. The award-winning series ran for 75 issues between 1989 and 1996 and is considered one of the greatest comic runs of all time.

Of course, there’ve been multiple attempts to adapt the series for live-action over the years (Lucifer is technically a Sandman spinoff), but now it’s finally going to happen. Netflix has greenlit an adaptation which is currently moving towards full production. But, perhaps conscious of the production woes of American Gods, Gaiman seems determined to have a direct say in how...

“Dark Matter” (Syfy)

The “Dark Matter” TV series came years after the debut of the Dark Horse comic book it’s based on, but creators Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie originally conceived of the series — about six individuals who wake up on a starship together with their memories wiped — as a TV show before it was redeveloped as a comic in 2012.

“Wynonna Earp” (Syfy)

Syfy has a number of science fiction series based on lesser known comic book titles, including the fan-favorite “Wynonna Earp,” starring Melanie Scrofano as the demon-fighting descendent of legendary lawman Wyatt Earp.

“Outcast” (Cinemax)

After the massive success of AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” creator Robert Kirkman went on to adapt his supernatural horror comic series “Outcast” for television. The adaptation, starring Patrick Fugit as the titular outcast, debuted on Cinemax in 2016.

“iZombie” (The CW)

Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Spider-Man’s new nemesis: ‘Orange Is the New Black’ actor Michael Chernus
Robert Downey Jr., Michael Keaton, and Tom Holland in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
Uh oh. Spider-Man: Homecoming is in danger of becoming the next Spider-Man 3. That movie, the end of the Tobey Maguire take on Marvel’s web-slinger, had the issue of being inelegantly overpacked with villains. The Sandman, Venom, and the Green Goblin — a bit much. And that was only three villains! Now Homecoming has more. Upcoming Sony-Disney team-up Spider-Man: Homecoming has signed on yet another villain. The latest addition to the Tom Holland Spidey’s rogue gallery: Phineas Mason the Tinkerer. … Who? Confession: I had no idea who this dude was. Wikipedia tells me he’s a supervillain with “an almost superhuman gift of genius in engineering, able to invent sophisticated gadgets from nothing more than spare parts left over from ordinary household appliances.” Wait, engineering is a superpower now? Tinkerer is a pretty deep cut. Even Marvel.com says, “Very little is known about the criminal known as the Tinkerer.

Dario Argento in Dracula (2012)
Iggy Pop could play Sandman in a Dario Argento-directed horror
Dario Argento in Dracula (2012)
Italian horror director Dario Argento is tired of typical Christmas movies. He wants gore, violence, and fear in his December films. So he's making his own—or at least, trying to. On an Indiegogo fundraiser page, Argento proposes the idea for a movie called The Sandman starring Iggy Pop as the title villain. "This Sandman is the real deal, going back to the dark, original German legend," the page reads. "The Real Sandman was someone who stole the eyes of any children that wouldn't just close them and go to sleep." In other words: Sandman and Santa Clause probably aren't friends.

Iggy Pop cast as serial killer in Dario Argento film The Sandman

Iggy Pop has been cast as a serial killer in a new Dario Argento film.

The Sandman is the latest project from the Italian director (Suspiria), who has spoken about Pop's "unique presence".

"Working with Iggy Pop is amazing! Such an interesting and intense personality! I would not even simply say 'actor', that does not cover it. I would rather say 'a unique presence'!" Argento said.

The director has launched a campaign to fund the film, which has so far raised 1% of its $250,000 target.

A description for the film reads: "The Sandman tells the story of Nathan, a young student in the city who struggles to forget his childhood trauma at the hands of the serial killer dubbed 'The Sandman'.

"Nathan killed The Sandman (Iggy Pop) years ago, on Christmas Eve, after he witnessed the murder of his mother... until he sees the beautiful woman who lives in...
