Exclusive First Look at EC Comics’ First-Ever Serialized Horror Comic ‘Blood Type’
Image
Recently resurrected by Oni Press, EC Comics will launch its first-ever serialized horror comic with Blood Type.

The first issue in the four-part series will be published on June 11, and Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive first look at the cover variants below.

Rising from the pages of last fall’s Epitaphs from the Abyss #3, bon vivant bloodsucker Ada is the first character to claw its way out of an EC anthology story and into a standalone series from one of the most influential names in terror.

Blood Type is written by Corinna Bechko and illustrated by Eisner Award winner Andrea Sorrentino. It features coloring by Dave Stewart and lettering by Richard Starkings and Tyler Smith.

A cunning vampire with nothing left to lose, Ada’s misdeeds have landed her on the doorstep of an idyllic Caribbean resort teeming with wealthy tourists and superstitious locals — an ample food supply for the...

You’re Cordially Invited Review — A Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon Comedy For Better or Worse… Probably Worse
Image
I’m unsure what to make of Prime Video’s You’re Cordially Invited. This film has a fantastic pedigree behind it. First, Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are two reliable comedy stars; this is the first film they have starred in together. They share excellent antagonistic chemistry.

Another factor is You’re Cordially Invited’s director, Nicholas Stoller, who has made some of the best comedy movies of this century, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the Neighbors franchise of films, and the unfairly underseen (and box office failure) Bros.

However, you have a likable comedy that is too recycled and plays it too safe for its good, never living up to its War of the Roses premise. Albeit, a Saturday Night Live-esque version of such.

Jami Gertz: The World’s Richest Actor Worth £2.5 Billion—& Why You’ve Probably Never Heard Of Her
Image
The world’s Richest Actor Jami Gertz (Photo Credit – Facebook)

Jami Gertz—sound familiar? Well, it should. This Chicago-born actress quietly sits at the top of the wealthiest actors list, with a net worth of $3B (£2.45B). While everyone’s obsessed with Tom Cruise or Shah Rukh Khan, Gertz has been stacking her billions in the background, and we’re just now catching up.

Her journey to this mind-blowing fortune wasn’t your typical Hollywood rise. It all started in fifth grade when Gertz played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz—and guess what? She loved it. So, she decided acting was her destiny. Fast forward to 1981, and she was starring in Endless Love. She went on to rock sitcoms like Still Standing and The Neighbors, making a name for herself in the acting world. But that’s not what made her billions.

In 1989, Gertz married Tony Ressler, a banker at the time.

The Sticky TV Review: The infamous Canadian Maple Syrup Heist becomes a fun true-crime series
Image
Plot: A comedy-drama series about Ruth Landry, a maple syrup farmer who, in defiance of a heartless system, assembles a team to undertake the Canadian heist of the century. The target: the country’s multi-million dollar maple syrup surplus.

Review: It goes without saying that the last decade has been a boon for true-crime fans. From adaptations of podcasts to limited series of every tone imaginable, fictionalized retellings of shocking events that took place have served as wonderful opportunities for actors to stretch themselves in every way imaginable. Over that same stretch of time, Noah Hawley’s anthology series Fargo has proven that even the most bizarre and original stories can compete with true tales when the writing is strong enough. Taking the similar sensibilities of Fargo, Prime Video’s new series The Sticky blends dark humor with a true story to deliver an entertainingly original show that showcases a...

"We always want what we don't have..." Indeed. This kind of suburbia also creeps me out. Starz unveiled an official US trailer for a streaming series called The Couple Next Door, debuting on Starz to watch in January 2025. This British TV series originally premiered in the UK in November 2023 on Channel 4. Starz is finally playing this in the US for streaming more than a year later. Evie and her husband Pete move next door to the uber hot traffic-cop Danny and yoga instructor Becka and strike up a friendship, but a night of passion between Evie and Danny could have consequences. It's an English-language version of the original Dutch series Nieuwe Buren (The Neighbors). Starring Eleanor Tomlinson, Sam Heughan, Alfred Enoch,...

Marvel's Thunderbolts Trailer Has A Frustrating Feature That Is Annoying Fans
Image
Marvel Studios' upcoming superhero flick "Thunderbolts*" is slated to be the 36th feature film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will assemble six ancillary characters culled from previous MCU movies and TV shows, making them into a ragtag fighting force. On the team are the Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, and Taskmaster from "Black Widow," the Winter Soldier and U.S. Agent (Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell) from "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) from "Ant-Man and the Wasp." These characters previously served as low-level villains or antagonists, but are now redeeming themselves as hunted antiheroes.

The first full trailer for "Thunderbolts*" was released on September 23, 2024, and it displays the requisite action that the genre demands, as well as the notable character reveals that the MCU is known for. The characters are also well-equipped with quips, wielding bathos like a cudgel. A car is shot during an intense chase sequence,...

Timothée Chalamet’s ‘Marty Supreme’ Casts Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary and Abel Ferrara
Image
Timothée Chalamet’s ping pong movie is adding a few more players.

Odessa A’zion has joined the cast of “Marty Supreme,” from A24 and director Josh Safdie. Rounding out the cast are magician Penn Jillette (of Penn & Teller), investor and “Shark Tank” personality Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful) and “Bad Lieutenant” filmmaker Abel Ferrara.

Specifics about their roles are kept under wraps, but this motley crew joins previously announced cast members Gwyneth Paltrow and Tyler, the Creator in the film, which is said to be about a professional table tennis player. Plot details are unknown, but A24 posted an image of a ping pong ball with the words “coming soon” after Variety broke news of the project in July.

Safdie and Ronald Bronstein wrote the original screenplay for “Marty Supreme” and produce alongside Eli Bush, Anthony Katagas, Chalamet and A24. Production kicks off in the fall.

All 6 Seasons Of This Is Us, Ranked Worst To Best
Image
While This Is Us is known for its tear-jerker moments, dealing with powerful themes about marriage, parenting, and loss, not all of its seasons share the same level of quality. The drama undeniably offered high-quality drama throughout its six-season run, starting with a very strong pilot that became one of the highest-rated episodes of the show. This Is Us constantly shifts from the present day to the past and the future, with complex storylines, timelines, and characters, each of them very well-defined. However, some of them seemed to have lost direction and wanted This Is Us to be mainly known as a show with a lot of sad moments.

Created by Dan Fogelman, This Is Us premiered in 2016 on NBC, and concluded in 2022 after six seasons. It tells the story of the Pearson family: Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore), their three children, Kate (Chrissy Metz), Kevin (Justin Hartley...

Every St. Vincent Album Ranked, from Marry Me to All Born Screaming
Image
Annie Clark displays a remarkable facility for change, creating constantly morphing songs contained within a shifting panoply of modes, voices, and styles, cutting delicate, glittering pop with forceful fuzz and raunchy, preening guitar work. A multi-instrumentalist with a history of institutional training and anonymous backing-band work, she retains the guitar as her signature instrument and most potent tool, lacerating otherwise divine music with down-and-dirty grit, eyes heavenward and feet muddy.

The gradual expansion of sounds and textures occurring across her seven solo albums as St. Vincent has been accompanied by an inverse sense of simplification, the fine-tuning of music that’s grown less theatrical and more precise, imagery and language filed down to a sharp point. To celebrate the release of her latest release, All Born Screaming, we’ve ranked all eight of the musician’s albums, including her one-off collaboration with David Byrne.

Zosia Mamet's Oscar-Nominated Father David Says She's Not a Nepo Baby
Image
David Mamet is speaking out in response to the presumption that his kids are nepo babies.

For those who don’t know, Mamet is the two-time Oscar-nominated screenwriter of The Verdict and Wag the Dog and two-time Tony-nominated writer of Broadway plays like Glengarry Glen Ross and Speed-the-Plow.

Mamet‘s daughters are Girls actress Zosia and The Neighbors actress Clara.

Keep reading to find out more…

“They earned it by merit,” Mamet said at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books (via TheWrap). “Nobody ever gave my kids a job because of who they were related to.”

Mamet also slammed diversity rules in Hollywood.

“Dei is garbage,” he said. “It’s fascist totalitarianism.”

Zosia recently starred in one of the most critically-panned movies of the year so far.

David Mamet Denies Daughter Zosia Is a Nepo Baby: ‘They Earned It by Merit’
David Mamet at an event for When Do We Eat? (2005)
Legendary Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and playwright David Mamet said that his children aren’t nepo babies and that they have achieved their success due to their talent. His daughter Zosia Mamet is best known for starring on “Girls” alongside news anchor Brian Williams’ daughter Allison Williams, Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke’s daughter Jemima Kirke and creator Lena Dunham, daughter of a pair of New York City artists.

Promoting his memoir “Everywhere an Oink Oink” over the weekend at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, David conceded that his daughters — including Zosia’s sister Clara Mamet — learned from spending time on set with their father, according to the L.A. Times. He noted that he felt gratified by that.

Speaking particularly of the successful Zosia, Mamet argued that his daughters haven’t benefited from any form of privilege. “They earned it by merit,” he said.

‘Elemental’: Read The Screenplay For The Pixar Movie That Finds A Way To Mix Fire And Water
Image
Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Elemental, the Pixar pic directed by Peter Sohn.

Launching with a world premiere as the closing-night film at May’s Cannes Film Festival, Elemental was penned by John Hoberg & Kat Likkel and Brenda Hseuh, based on a story by the writers and Sohn about a fantastical place called Element City, where Fire-, Water-, Earth- and Air-residents live together.

The plot follows the quick-witted and fiery Ember (Leah Lewis), a new arrival to the city whose friendship with go-with-the-flow Wade (Mamoudou Athie) challenges not only her beliefs about the world they live in, but the person she wants to be.

The idea germinated from Sohn’s own experiences; like Ember, he was a second-generation immigrant whose parents moved from Korea to New York City. That starting point helped to form the film’s themes of fitting in to a new place,...

Getting Inside The Mind Of A Trailblazer: Rose Byrne & Her Approach To Playing Gloria Steinem In ‘Mrs. America’ – Emmys
Image
Rose Byrne has demonstrated fierce comedic timing in movies like Bridesmaids, Spy, the Neighbors franchise and this year’s Like a Boss. But the Australian native’s turn as feminist trailblazer and Ms. magazine co-founder Gloria Steinem in FX’s limited series Mrs. America reminds us of her chameleon-level expertise. Yes, the wig and the sunglasses are a big plus, but Byrne plunges into the complexities of the Era proponent’s public image and personal life with a great subtlety, displaying not only Steinem’s inspirational attributes, but her flaws as well. Byrne was previously Emmy nominated in the supporting category for Damages in 2009 and 2010.

Deadline: When you were first approached with Mrs. America, did the creators always have you in mind for the part of Gloria Steinem?

Rose Byrne: I was approached by Dahvi [Waller], and we had a couple of great conversations, and I was just intrigued by the project as a whole.

Steve Martin & Martin Short Comedy Series From Dan Fogelman Ordered By Hulu
Steve Martin
Hulu had given a straight-to-series order to a serialized comedy starring Steve Martin and Martin Short. The half-hour project, involving true crime and mystery, hails from This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman and 20th Century Fox TV where he is under an overall deal.

The comedy is based on an idea by Martin, who had been pursued by television networks for decades as an actor and as a writer-creator. Aside from co-creating the 1984 comedy series Domestic Life and his 15 hosting turns on Saturday Night Live, Martin has largely stayed away from television for the past five decades. This is his first TV series starring role.

“When you’re lucky enough to have lunch with Steve Martin, and halfway through the meal he says ‘hey, I have an idea for a TV show’ – it’s a pretty good day,” Fogelman told Deadline. “This is as exciting as it gets.”
