World Trigger

I recently began watching this show, and I honestly fell in love with it immediately. While it's not the most beautifully-drawn anime out there, it definitely gets the point across, and I'm personally more involved in the story rather than the style, anyway. The story itself is very unique in its own way, that it doesn't completely rely on its monsters to keep the plot moving. There are segments that could have been planned out a little better, yes, but isn't that the case with all anime at least once? The characters are all very lovable, and the battle scenes will have you on the edge of your seat the entire time. As stated before, there are times when the plot moves along a bit slower than it probably should, often interrupting battle scenes to provide commentary and such. Once you get past the initial slow progression of the plot, it really is a deep, fun story that I enjoyed the entire time. In my personal opinion, the show is very underrated and doesn't get the attention I believe it deserves. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who might be interested.

What the? World trigger is one of the best anime I ever watch, and they say world trigger is not that good maybe their eyes are not good I watch world trigger 5 times and it's really excuting even though I already watch it so I feel so dissapointed that the world trigger will never had a season 4 there is a lot of thing that tamakoma-2 wanted to do even kuga yuma want to look for reprica also Amatori chika want to look for her brother and friend who gone missing and now your telling me that world trigger is not that good I was really looking forward to another season so please make more I realy like it. In the season 3 finally tamakoma-2 has won but it was cut so please author upload more I'm really looking forward to it so I will wait for the new season.

Let's get the bad out of the way first. CONS: Each episode intro shows that the first wide-scale alien attack from "the Neighborhood" dimension was quelled 4-1/2 years ago, but we are never shown exactly how, or how they kept casualties to fewer than 1% of the city's population, or who most of the pioneer heroes who formed the Border Defense Agency were. Incredibly, most of the current ace fighters are 21 or younger. Kuga, the Neighbor who fled and journeyed to Medeen (Earth) was already his nation's top warrior as a pre-teen. There's a very large ensemble of heroes who shape the story. Tip: use the color-coded team uniforms to keep track of who's who. The cartoonish pouty faces common to anime are present, but not in any fight scene. There's the obligatory resort spa scene, but 1 fan service in 73 episodes ain't bad. The Xeno/Lilith arc is where the series "jumped the shark" by being too far-fetched and detracts from the show's overall legacy. Thankfully it rebounded. Now for the great things. This is an intellectual anime, and unlike other thought-provoking series, you will never get lost if you miss a dialogue; everything is re-explained in the pre-credits. The main character grows from trainee to hero to leader; it's slow and steady, but hey, he's 15. Kuga's development stopped halfway through as he faced a tragedy; still, 37 episodes feels adequate enough for an alien to get used to Japanese life. Even minus an origin story, there is way more than enough geek science to gratify and at times overwhelm fans. The combat concepts are interesting: transformable weapons (triggers) enhanced by a person's Trion (ala Star Wars' The Force) + body swap into a Trion construct. An agent can de-transform, or if the construct is damaged enough, can "bail out" and rematerialize to their physical bodies back at BODA HQ. A weird ability among trigger wielders who die is become a Black Trigger. As a bonus, a select few have superhuman abilities. I never get tired of Jin's pre-cognition declarations to skeptics: "You will..., my side effect tells me so." The battles are visually stunning and exceptionally choreographed, even if you fast-forward the commentaries. Villains are underdeveloped but not repetitive; the progression of enemies is satisfying as battle droids become stronger, and their masters, the human-like Neighbors are menacing and increasingly powerful with unique abilities (one took 10 top agents just to force a retreat). All these qualities converge into non-stop action achieved through the mythos. There are alien skirmishes and 3 additional major invasions. In between, BODA agents prepare and demonstrate improvement through solo and team Rank Wars. You will want to rewatch the Finally and probably the best part, endless cliffhangers! Episode after episode stopped exactly where it should've and kept you wishing for more. Really well-thought out. 10/10

When I first started watching this, I considered it another mediocre Netflix offering. But the longer I watched the more interested I became in the plot twists and ingenious scenarios.

One must first realize this is shoenen anime, so it is going to appeal primarily to younger viewers drawn by the constant action, explosions, fancy weapons, and adrenaline factor. They will tend to give it absurdly high scores, a lot of 10-star "best animation ever!" reviews, etc. While it targets its audience well... that doesn't mean it will appeal to more discerning anime tastes.

The basic plot and story progress is fairly good, as are the characters. However some will have trouble getting past the simplistic animation. Yuma's triple-slit eyes and pouty-mouth trope that they employ several times every episode gets tiring very quickly. It's a poor choice of animation style in such a serious storyline.

The dubbed translation and captioned translation are very different, making it very difficult to follow both at the same time. This could cause issues for the hearing impaired.

Another strike against it is the typical "let's stand and have lengthy discussions while the enemy politely waits for us to finish". Such monologues can and do quickly become frustratingly unrealistic. A viewer can also become very tired of characters being told to run for their lives... only to just stand there and either discuss the matter or watch the ensuing fight against extremely dangerous robotic monsters. Both civilian and ranked characters disobey direct orders to leave the area, making it more difficult for experienced warriors to fight unhindered. "Outstandingly stupid" doesn't even come close... especially when survival of non-combatants is a key issue. Realistically, people would be running exactly as they were told... and likely before they were told.

Overall the story is rather good, and at some times splendid. Yes, it is just one battle after another, but they take time to develop the characters' personalities, subtle interactions, and even offer a bit of humor at times. The strategies employed during battle are often brilliant, but sometimes jump the shark more than a little.

Some have pointed out the abrupt ending of the anime, with resolution of one part of the story but the overall story arc left unfinished. A bit of research shows this is because the Manga it is based on hasn't been finished (as of January 2025)... and the creator of the series is suffering from repeated serious health issues that has put the manga on at least temporary hiatus. Whether the series is ever finished (either in manga or anime) remains to be seen.

That recognized, the story is still good enough to push through the so-so animation. This anime isn't about animation. It's about characters, story, strategy, and adrenaline. Given what it is, it does the job well enough. But be prepared going in: the series is 99 episodes long as of the writing of this review... and at this time it's not finished. To its credit, it is the first anime I have ever watched through that many episodes.

The animation is fast-moving, but blase and repetitious. I give the series 7 stars for adequate plot and story. That said, many viewers likely won't be able to sit through 99 episodes of this heavy-shoenen series.

A world where there are other worlds and those worlds invade that world humans live in. This anime is actually quite good. My major issue is the fight scenes which too much time spent on talking, reviewing and making up plans which make them too drawn out and longer than they should. Other than that and that it is not the best drawn I still do enjoy this show. There is quite a long list of characters and trying and remember who is who at times can be frustrating. When trying to remember who has any ties to the main characters or their strengths can get a little annoying as well. The action scenes are quite intense and it has plenty of action mostly with humans using adapted otherworldly technology for weapons to defend from those same otherworldly beings to prevent abduction or loss of the citizens of the city, they are Border and their job is to protect those citizens.
