I have never rated an episode 10 stars before...

But wow, what an amazing finale. I never thought a courtroom segment could be so nail biting. I have watched some films starring John Turturro, but not all. But I'll be damned if his closing speech wasn't one of his greatest moments in film to date.

Everything was just top tier, from the writing to the delivery by every actor in this.

I don't want to post spoilers, but this really is how a finale should be done. I am so glad I caught wind of this series, I have been recommending it to everyone who has asked me what they should watch next.

The whole series is sensational ...

What a series ,, what a plot .. It literally makes you lose your mind and suspect of everyone .. reached to the point where i wasn't even sure if Naz did it or not ..

presenting many suspects, all with somewhat damming evidence just made the series reach a peak point of thrill and mystery .. and even for some saying the finale wan't as they wished for or as strong as the beginning .. i do understand what are they getting at ,, but keeping in mind we're talking about a 90 minutes episode all focused on the courtroom the episode was satisfying maybe not 100% catching the killer but at least for Naz it was satisfying and somehow purposeful and emotional.

Cast wise ... the whole cast engaged amazingly and they made it look even more mysterious with their near perfection facial expressions .. now that have been said .,. there are four actors were phenomenal ... in the first half of the series .. John Turturro (Stone) and Bill Camp (Box) were so engaging and the primary reason the first half had no gaps or dullness ... the other two arethe magical talent Riz Ahmed and Michael Kenneth Williams ,, Oh my goodness !! their relationship and the deep monologue they had was just so deep and always careful on edge since the minute Freddy gave Naz the shoes to provide fraction in the showers :D :D

finally i just can't believe i'm watching this now .. after more than two years of the premiere .. so if you have reached the finale today .. just be glad you got to watch it.

The real story of this series is revealed

THE NIGHT OF, Episode 8, The Call of the Wild, and it's a wrap. The last episode of a widely critically acclaimed show. Personally, for me, it ended much stronger than it started. It literally felt like the first six episodes were there just to set up the ending. This show....this series was all about the ending. Is Naz innocent? From the get go, even as we learn of some of his own past dark deeds, we kind of knew the truth anyway. Yes, he is. So, who cares? Who killed Andrea? Was it Mr. Day, the creepy mortician? Was it Ray Halle (Paulo Costanzo), Andrea's CPA? Former Detective Box has some new evidence now. So, maybe… Or maybe Duane Reade and /or Trevor Williams. Or, maybe it's none of the above. But, who cares, because at the end Andrea's death, as tragic as it was, isn't the story. The real story is simple, and it's universal; the story is about people. People who muddle through life experiencing both good and bad things. People who go through life with luck, love, loneliness. People who have everything, including the kitchen sink, thrown right at their head, and they still move forward. Why? Because, life moves forward. Not sideways, and certainly not backwards (Although, I here Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is working on that one.). Life, in all it's craziness, moves forward. The real story is what happens now? Where does life go from here. Naz has a drug problem. While in prison he embraced the "thug life". Can he return to "civilized society"? His relationship with his parents is strained. Will that mend? Stone's eczema is back-- an allergic reaction brought on entirely by stress. Being lead attorney on a high profile case does not do wonders for his complexion. Will he finally overcome that? He does keep the cat, so that's something positive. The real "plot" of this show: a tragic event alters the lives of a series of people, and how do they move forward from there? This series, consistent in its presentation, ends with more questions than answers. But, hey, that's life….

    Amazing

This episode was certainly one of the best of the series. However I think I would have rated it a 9 if it was not for John stones closing speech. This is absolutely incredible and for me one of the best bits of court room entertainment ever filmed. The scene is very powerful to the viewer after your made to feel sympathetic towards John so it really speaks and on a case where it feels like they are continually fighting a losing battle it more than makes up for there performance. It is worth watching the whole series just for this moment. I would highly recommend this to anyone into crime dramas as it has a high quality finish like many HBO shows now. This mini series has a constant mystery to it which I believe what makes it so attractive, we never find out how the killing happened and to be honest I am OK with them leaving it that way.

    Worst finale ever

Crime drama/ suspense/ thriller is my favorite genre and this was the nth crime drama series I started watching with my wife. The first few episodes were slow but then had a great build up to the finale. This episode was set up perfectly for a great ending but we both were left most disappointed by the end. This was definitely the worst ending out of all the crime drama series we have watched and ruins the whole series for us. It's a 95 mins long episode and they waste at least 15- 20 minutes time showing worthless things that have no place in a crime drama. There is no closure provided to the viewers who invested their time in the series. Did he kill her or not? If not, then who did? Forget making Naz meet Chandra, the lazy writers really should have made a reveal, if not in court then at least to the audience either after Naz' acquittal as a flashback. No competent writer should ever make so many mistakes in the finale of the series.

      [Closing argument]

John Stone: I'm gonna be honest with you. This isn't what I normally do... I mean, obviously, someone who looks like this doesn't make his living doing public speaking. I'm sorry you even have to look at this... What I normally do is, uh, plea my clients out, because 95% of the time, they did what they were charged with. They sold that dope, they solicited that guy, they stole that iPhone. It's clear to me just looking at them. So, I tell them, uh, "Don't be stupid, take the deal."... The first time I saw Naz, he was sitting alone in a holding cell at the 21st Precinct... He'd just been arrested. I walked past him, out of the station and then stopped. I turned around and went back... Why?... Because I didn't see what I see in my other clients... And I still don't after all this time... What I see is what happens when you put a kid in Rikers and say, "Okay, now survive that" while we try you for something you didn't do."... And that's how you survive Rikers... Oh, there were crimes committed that night, no doubt... Crime one, stood up by a friend with a car, a young man takes his father's cab without permission to go to a party in Manhattan... Crime two, a young woman buys some powerful illegal drugs... Crime three, on the banks of the Hudson River, under the George Washington Bridge, she gives him one of those illegal drugs, MDMA... Crime four, later at her house, she gives him another illegal drug, ketamine, which, with the Ecstasy, and enough tequila to topple a saguaro cactus, knocks him out like the horses vets give ketamine to... Crime five, upon discovering the body, instead of reporting it, he runs... Crime six, he makes an illegal left turn... Crime seven, he resists arrest... Those are the crimes committed by these two young people that night, and the only ones we have proof of... What we don't have proof of is who committed the crime he's been charged with... The prosecution has presented what it says is proof, but at the end of the day, it's circumstance and speculation... The rush to judgment against Nasir Khan began at the 21st Precinct at 4:45 a.m. the night of, and ended 10 seconds later when he was tackled to the floor. The police investigated no one else, not the stepfather who had a tempestuous relationship with the victim, even though the percentage of killers who know their victims is five times greater than that of strangers, and even though among the fraction of strangers who do commit murder... There were two individuals the couple had confrontations with that night. One with a history of battery, the other with multiple convictions for aggravated assault, every time using a knife from the victim's own home... The night Naz was arrested, he lost a lot... He lost his freedom to return home to his family, to his school, to his night job that helps pay for that school... But what he didn't lose, and what none of us can lose, were his Constitutional rights to an attorney, to a fair and impartial trial by you, his peers, and to the presumption of his innocence beyond a reasonable doubt... We hear that term a lot. But what does it really mean, huh?... What's its definition?... It doesn't have one. It's what we think, and as much as what we think, what we feel. And what we feel... and what you feel will determine what happens to the rest of this young man's life... Thank you.
