Tom Segura: Teacher

Big fan of Tom and avid watcher of the podcast but I have to say this wasn't good. By far his weakest special.

The audience wasn't feeling it either. A lof of jokes fell flat and it was full of awkward pauses.

No punchlines, nothing memorable.

The whole thing feels rushed or he just lost his edge.

Big Segura fan here. Regular watcher of YMH and 2 Bears 1 Cave. And I was looking forward to this special. And wanted it sooooo much to be hilarious! But unfortunately, no... I caught myself laughing out loud only once during the entire special. His typical Segura-style way of storytelling "...and if not, let me explain it to you, right now." felt really forced and like a gimmick. The topics seemed far-fetched or forced. It feels (not saying it IS) like he 'had to do one more Netflix special' but his head was somewhere else entirely.

Long time fan of Tom but I see a regular decline in his material. Not only specials but podcasts as well. This one was not super bad but I had just few smiles and nothing really felt complete or crafted enough. Some jokes just ended in place that felt unnatural and kind of shallow and the overall vibe was just unnecessarily protracted words with not much depth or some interesting idea. Shame...

If you're looking for genuine laughs, prepare to work hard.

What's not hard at all is seeing the Austin blue print behind it all. Including the use of "gay" as a punchline followed by gay thoughts.

What's most painfully evident, is that "rich Tom" doesn't care about the craft anymore. He's as funny as a washcloth.

And I think the fans have caught on, because that venue feels way smaller than the one he did Sledgehammer in - which was still funny.

Very disappointing but a very well documented "downfall" (in parentheses, because he's still filthy rich. He's just not any good at his job anymore after being actually great at it for ao long).

And yes, I am one of the poors. One of the washcloth-less ones.

Maybe it's just the sheer volume of content comedians are expected to churn out now, but you'd think between the podcasts and life experiences there'd be more sharp material in the mix. Instead, this feels like someone who's lost a bit of perspective on what's actually funny. At some point, comedians might need a self imposed "sell by" date that forces them to step away, reinvent what they do, and come back after a few years with enough distance to make fun of themselves in a fresher, more honest way.themselves a little better.
