Patrick Brice has become a lauded cult filmmaker within the horror community thanks to his excellent work directing There’s Someone Inside Your House and the Creep franchise. While Brice hasn’t quite reached the level of fame that Ari Aster or Jordan Peele has attained, his films are characterized by their surprising realism; even if the horror themes that he is unpacking are a bit far-fetched, Brice is able to ground each of his stories in legitimate human emotion, and develop characters that are compelling within their own right. Although it will be interesting to see where his horror career goes, particularly as the Creep saga continues to become more popular, Brice has already proven that he can also make a great dark comedy. The Overnight is a frequently hilarious, yet highly disturbing examination of adult relationships that features terrific performances by Adam Scott and Jason Schwartzman.

There aren't many actors who have the same painfully awkward sense of authenticity as Adam Scott. Scott has an inherent likability, and his talents for playing grounded, empathetic roles have allowed him to bring to life realistic characters in his many great television roles. Whether it's the shy yet ambitious earnestness of Ben Wyatt in Parks and Recreation or the self-loathing depression of Ed MacKenzie in Big Little Lies, Scott is a valuable supporting player who tends to elevate the performers that surround him. While his strength as an ensemble player has certainly succeeded in advancing his career, Scott also makes for an atypical protagonist. Although he's often typecast as wacky side characters in his film appearances, Scott gives a hilarious, relatable, and surprisingly raunchy performance in the underrated 2015 comedy The Overnight.

Maggie, now an adult, doesn’t remember those events and doesn’t believe her father’s book. Exclusive: Creep franchise filmmaker and HBO Room 104 director Patrick Brice has boarded The Wild at HBO Max and Warner Max, a project he’ll direct and adapt from the Owen Laukkanen young female suspense novel.
The Wild, from Underlined Paperbacks, centers around Dawn. She’s not a bad person – she’s just made some bad choices: wrong guy, wrong friends, wrong everything. But she wasn’t expecting her parents to pay a boatload of money to ship her off to ‘Out of the Wild’, a wilderness boot camp with a bunch of other messed up kids to learn important “life lessons.” Dawn and the other cubs wind up learning a lot, but not what they expect, for what happens in the woods isn’t what their parents planned. Sometimes plans go very wrong. And this is one of those times. Suddenly Dawn is more scared than she’s ever been in her life.

Yes, it’s that time again. You know the one, where we catch up on all of the theatrical releases that haven’t gotten a review yet in one fell swoop (such is the case during the busy fall season). Today, it’s three very unique films, all hoping to get your attention this weekend. We have the comedy Corporate Animals, the foreign biopic/satire Loro, and the Hollywood drama/thriller Zeroville, based on the acclaimed book of the same name. Each movie has something to offer, but do they all offer enough to warrant a recommendation? Do any? Well, you’ll just have to read on below to find out… Corporate Animals Back at the Sundance Film Festival, buzz was pretty strong initially for Corporate Animals, a satirical comedy. Most of it centered on how Demi Moore would fare in a baity role. Well, Sundance came and went, with middling response to the film.

Patrick Brice‘s previous films “Creep” and “The Overnight” uncovered the potential of a darker side of the mumblecore genre. Though his films are cut from the same cloth of the films of Mark Duplass or Joe Swanberg, Brice finds the menace and paranoia in human intimacy and social interaction. Brice’s comedy is mired in the ever-battling anxieties and curiosities of the unknown variables of interpersonal relationships.

Paul Davidson is stepping down as executive vice-president of film and television of The Orchard in a move that follows the recent sale of the film group to investor 1091 Media.
Davidson has led the division for five years, overseeing acquisitions and releases on such titles as Birds Of Passage, Hunt For The Wilderpeople, Neruda, El Angel, American Animals, and The Hummingbird Project.
At time of writing sources could not expand on the succession plan, nor did they elaborate on 1091 Media’s plans for the film and television business.

At the finish line of its sale to 1091 Media, distributor the Orchard’s film and TV head Paul Davidson is parting ways with the company.
In an amicable split, the creative executive addressed staff in person and in a company-wide memo on Tuesday in New York City to inform them of his decision.
“While I am very appreciative that 1091 asked me to continue to run the company in its new iteration, for me the time is right to look toward my own next chapter and build something new,” Davidson wrote in his note.
In his roughly five years, Davidson has overseen the acquisition and release of many of the indie distributor’s titles, including the Oscar nominee for documentary feature “Cartel Land,” the Sundance hit “The Overnight,” acclaimed fashion doc “Dior & I,” and the cult film “What We Do in the Shadows.”
Before the Orchard, Davidson led Microsoft’s Xbox Video service.

It was just the other day that we passed along the truly awesome news that Creep and Creep 2 director Patrick Brice is still working on the much-anticipated third (and final?) entry in his found footage series with star Mark Duplass. While Creep 3 may still be, unfortunately, a ways off, today we have word that Brice is keeping himself busy in the realms of the horror genre with his new gig.
Turns out Brice will be joining forces with Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy and Aquaman producer/director James Wan to take the helm of Netflix's adaptation of Stephanie Perkins' New York Times bestselling novel There's Someone Inside Your House.
Screenwriter Henry Gayden aka the man behind the script for Annabelle: Creation and Lights Out director David F. Sandberg's upcoming DC flick Shazam! penned the adaptation of Perkins' novel. The book is described as a combination...

Exclusive: Patrick Brice, the director behind Creep, The Overnight, and the Demi Moore-starrer Corporate Animals, has been tapped to direct Netflix’s There’s Someone Inside Your House, a film based on the New York Times bestselling novel by Stephanie Perkins. Shazam! screenwriter Henry Gayden penned the adaptation, which is being produced by Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
Slated to being production this fall, the pic is described as a combination of two different beloved teenage genres: the slashers that came to prominence in the ’80s and ’90s and the character-driven coming of age classics a la John Hughes’ films and American Graffiti.
Levy and Wan are producing alongside 21 Laps’ Dan Cohen and Atomic Monster’s Michael Clear.

Lucy (Demi Moore), the egomaniacal CEO of a once-lucrative edible cutlery company, knows that she has to keep her employees hungry in order to keep them in check; in order to keep them eager for her approval so that they don’t realize how little her approval really means. But when a team-building retreat goes wrong and the entire workforce of Incredible Edibles is trapped inside of a collapsed cave, the hunger Lucy has always stoked in them may come back to bite her in the ass.

Yesterday, the Sundance Film Festival announced the brunt of its 2019 lineup, setting the course for the year of American independent cinema to come. For a small handful of filmmakers, the slate was a dream come true. For many, many others, the news was a crushing disappointment. Several of the projects that IndieWire included in our annual Sundance wish list made the final cut; a huge number of equally tantalizing features did not. And yet, the seemingly monolithic festival is not the end-all be-all that the media (and the movie community as a whole) often makes it out to be. To quote indie veteran Mark Duplass: “Sundance is awesome, but Sundance is not everything.” Just because a movie isn’t privileged to premiere in the thin and rarefied air of Park City doesn’t mean that it’s not worth being excited about — sometimes it just means that it wasn...

To get into her role as Dr Klemperer in Suspiria, Tilda Swinton wore a set of fake male genitalia. From Nymphomaniac to Boogie Nights, here’s cinema’s story of fake body parts
To prepare for her role as Dr Klemperer in the upcoming remake of Suspiria, Tilda Swinton ventured into the world of prosthetic male genitalia. While her commitment to the part might sound excessive, we’re seeing this kind of thing happen more in movies. You could draw an inappropriately shaped line from Mark Wahlberg’s lovingly crafted accessory in Boogie Nights to the abominably proportioned monster on display in The Greasy Strangler, stopping in between at movies such as The Overnight, in which Jason Schwartzman and Adam Scott compare sizes.
It is in the area of sex that fake genitals are most often called for. We can think we’re seeing the real thing when we aren’t.

After six seasons in Litchfield Penitentiary, Taylor Schilling is branching out into a new genre. The actress, who starred as Piper Kerman on Netflix’s long-running hit, “Orange Is the New Black,” has finished her first post “Orange” project, and it’s a chilling one. Schilling will star in “The Prodigy,” a new horror movie about a possessed child with a script by Jeff Buhler, who penned the forthcoming remake of “Pet Sematary,” the novel by Stephen King. “The Prodigy” is produced by Tripp Vinson (“The Exorcism of Emily Rose”) and directed by Nicholas McCarthy (“At the Devil’s Door”).
The most exciting pairing of the project, however, is Schilling’s co-star, young Jackson Robert Scott, who played Georgie Denborough in last year’s hit Stephen King adaptation, “It.” Scott plays Schilling’s son, Miles, who is possessed by some sort of demon spirit.

Chicago – Orange Day is Friday… as in “Orange is the New Black.” That’s when Season Six will be available for download from Netflix, as the online series continues to showcase the women inmates at Litchfield Penitentiary, three of whom are played by Taylor Schilling (Piper), Kate Mulgrew (Red) and Dascha Polanco (Daya).
The three actors came to Chicago to promote “Orange is the New Black” (also known as Oitnb) as it keeps its status as a go-to download, and is often cited as the first “binge” series in TV history. Created by Jenji Kohan, the multiple award-winning series revolves around Piper Chapman (Schilling), a woman in her 30s who is sentenced to minimum security prison at the fictional Litchfield. She was railroaded into the joint by her on-again-off-again lover Alex (Laura Prepon), and her indictment and imprisonment has been the catalyst for exploring the lives inside Litchfield for five seasons.

Kate Stone (Taylor Schilling) has spent her whole life chasing boring leads in a bland office job, can’t stand her other people, and has such an estranged relationship with her brother (Eric Edelstein) that she barely realizes he has an adolescent daughter Maddie (Bryn Vale) — until, one day, he begs her to babysit the girl for a few days while her parents are away. So begins the formula of “Family,” writer-director Laura Steinel’s amiable debut, which belongs to that familiar tradition of commercial storytelling that finds an unhappy woman discovering a better path in connecting with others. You’ve probably seen a version of this movie before, just not with all the Juggalos.

Netflix has signed a new four picture deal with Jay Duplass and Mark Duplass, starting with an untitled Ray Romano movie. The Duplass Brothers, veteran American independent filmmakers behind The One I Love, The Overnight, Creep, and Jeff Who Lives at Home are entering into a new agreement for worldwide rights to four upcoming projects that will be exclusively available through the streaming giant. The Duplass Brothers join other high-profile directors like Ava DuVernay and Ryan Murphy, who both have recently signed deals with Netflix.
The first project under the new deal is the untitled Ray Romano movie, which will be released later this year. The story is a bittersweet "bromance" about friendship, mortality, and made-up sports. The movie recently wrapped production and stars Ray Romano (Everybody Loves Raymond) and Mark Duplass. The untitled movie is the second feature film directed by Alex Lehmann (Blue Jay) who co-wrote the script with Duplass.

‘Creep 2’ Review: There’s Nothing Scarier Than Mark Duplass With a Ponytail in This Blumhouse Sequel
“Creep 2” barely gets to the end of the first act before Mark Duplass stands naked in front of the camera with a dopey grin on his face. It’s not the actor-director’s first rodeo (he also bared all on HBO’s “Togetherness”), but it’s an unusual decision in the context of goofy found footage horror-comedy, not to mention a sequel to one. That should give you an indication of the peculiar ambitions of this microbudget franchise, which takes the familiar mold of privileged white guy problems and turns them into a nightmare.
Patrick Brice’s 2014 Blumhouse-produced “Creep” stood out from the Paranormal Activities of the world in that the monster was essentially a variation on the Duplassian doofus he’s played in countless freewheeling comedies since he and his brother Jay’s breakthrough directorial debut “The Puffy Chair.” In “Creep,” he spent most of the movie as...

The Orchard has released the first trailer for Creep 2, the follow-up to Mark Duplass and director Patrick Brice's chilling 2015 thriller Creep. While Mark Duplass returns, he encounters someone with a much different background than his previous victims.

The Orchard has shared a first look at Mark Duplass in Creep 2, a follow-up to his disarmingly disturbing micro-budget thriller Creep, which has won a strong cult audience since its quiet debut in 2015. Fans slowly started to discover the creepy drama on Netflix, and it's proven a big enough hit to warrant a sequel. Which should be even more unsettling than that first outing.
The Orchard has announced plans to release Creep 2 this October. The movie stars Mark Duplass in the title role, though in real life he is nothing but the consummate gentleman. His co-star this time out is Desiree Akhavan. The Orchard was kind enough to send over a first look photo from the movie.
Creep 2 will be directed by Patrick Brice, the same guy responsible for unleashing Creep on the public at large. He also directed the low budget indie The Overnight to much acclaim.
