It seems Sally Draper's more important to the show than anything at McCann Erickson.
Don's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere and now we get Don swapping stories with veterans.
Betts has cancer.
I get it, the war and cancer are deep topics and we all need to care and respect that, but this is the next-to-last episode with many other topics hanging in the balance that seem more relevant.
The story did not move forward. There was nothing about the agency. Nothing about Roger. Will we see Joan in the finale? I would rather learn what she did - after she walked out - than see Sally in yet another (pointless) scene. Why does it seem Sally, Betty, and Henry are more important than anything at McCann? Why is Duck still around? Talk about a guy who wore out his welcome ages ago.
Mad Men used to be gritty and now it's the Days of Our Lives.
I can clearly see why the next episode is the last, but I'd hoped this episode would help move towards closure with the firm and everyone from Sterling Cooper.
I'm a diehard Mad Men fan, I have paid for the whole series, and I've seen every episode multiple times. The grit that made the show great has all but disappeared from seasons 6 and 7.
What I really think is Matthew Weiner should have sat down with Don Draper and the creative team to conjure up some better episodes in season 7.
I really hated this episode.
This is a good episode, edgy and strange... The war vets that Don hangs out with all seem like they can do something violent at any moment, which is par for this show's course... Max Gail from Barney Miller is one of them... more fitting, he was a Vietnam vet in DC Cab and here a WW2 vet (both war's were twenty years previously)...
Not only is this a worthy penultimate episode but it's better than the finale: herein mostly involving Don and also Pete on the sidelines, bordering on staying or going with Duck on the sidelines, as usual...
Anyhow, MAD MEN is a great series with a pretty good final season... although the season's first half is better than these Nomad Don episodes, for which this is the weirdest outing but, at this point, like the series itself, I'm repeating myself.
The Graduate reference is a bit antequainted but hung on for many years. Another hanger-on from that film "Just one word..plastics. That's it, one word, plastics."
Looking for Diana in Racine is one thing but find Don's need for a cross-country spree hard to believe. Their emotional histories are so similar, filled with disappointment and pain, they genuinely belong together and heal each other. Maybe he is a soul searching for its body or vice versa.
Based upon Greek, Roman and Latin mythologies Diana Baur is a perfect name. Baur, Bauer, farm in German and Diana related to solitude, fertility, the hunt and Wicca. Not evil, just sort of lost and alone.
Btw, in the photo gallery look at the photo pf Vincent Kartheiser at the restaurant. Over his right shoulder at the adjoining table doesn't the facing woman look like Elizabeth Reaser with her hair combed the other way? No wonder Don couldn't find her in Wisconsin.

- TriviaThe radio station Don is listening to when his car breaks down, KOMA 1520, still exists on FM as KOMA 92.5 in the Oklahoma City metro area as of January, 2016.
- GoofsWhen Don pushes the young male hotel worker on the bed, there is one quick shot that includes the paper bag that held a bottle under his hand. It is missing in every other shot while Don reprimands and advises him; the reason is it fell onto the floor next to the bed, in a spot hidden from the camera.
- Quotes
Betty Francis: [narrated via her letter to Sally] Sally, I always worried about you because you always marched to the beat of your own drum. But now I know that's good. I know your life will be an adventure. I love you. Mom.
