Thrilling movie with some great performances.

I had read Samaresh Majumdar's novel Buno Haansh before watching the movie, so i had expectations from it, but i was a bit hesitant as i did not trust Dev's dialog delivery and acting, but i am happy to say he has pulled off a difficult role brilliantly, he was not perfect but was much much better than his previous movies and has acted really well in this one looking innocent and confused as Amol, the main character. It will surely be one of the highlights of his career and he has the potential. Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury has made a detailed movie with a soul, keeping the thrill elements intact. All the other characters are perfectly cast but Sudipta Chakraborty's act is the standout. The background score and music by Shantanu Moitra are great as always. Buno Haansh and Dev's act is surely one of the best this year.

Some great performances with magnificent cinematography!

Finally I watched it..it takes almost 10 years to come over to this perticular dev movie. After watching this..now I can say it's actually ahead of its time..all the performances are great..i actually shocked after realising that this movie shot at real locations..the bgms of this movie are perfect. Firstly it makes you emotional and then the thrill takes you to the end and leave you with an unsatisfactory ending..the editing..the screenplay all are great..never thought this movie can be that good in cinematography..i am a little bit unsatisfied with the ending of the story..the twists and turns engaged you all the time..you never bored..it you are a Bengali movie lover then you should give it a watch. That's it..

        A must watch!

A must watch! Dev has given another powerful performance as the central character and silenced his critiques yet again. Not sure how long the intellectuals can go on ignoring his talents! Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's direction is outstanding. The thrilling story is based on Samaresh Mazumdar's novel, - it is the gripping story of Amal - a simple man, born into a poor family who works as a security guard at a mall. He gets tempted by the world of wealth and lust and lives his ordinary life to join the underworld, and gradually gets trapped into the world of greed and crime. All the supporting casts - Srabanti, Tanusree Chakraborty, Sohag Sen, Sudiptaa Chakraborty, Moon Moon Sen have performed their acts exceptionally well. The music and songs have matched the situations perfectly. Shantanu Moitra along with Anindya and Chandril and other singers have done wonders. Specially I was in love with the song - "Zindagi kahin bhi thamti nahin (Life never stops anywhere), " Overall 4.5/5 from me.

An interesting story marred a bit by a difficult to believe leading character.

"Buno Haansh" is an Indian film that has many ingredients you would want in a suspense film but it also has a serious problem which cripples the plot. It's worth seeing, perhaps, but is far from the best sort of film coming from this wonderful filmmaking country.

The story comes from a novel by Samaresh Majumdar and the film stars Dev. Dev plays Amal, a poor but apparently decent Bangladeshi immigrant living in Kolkata (Calcutta). But, like so many people, he's struggling--struggling to help take care of his family, struggling with illnesses and struggling to make a life for himself. While he does have a job, he realizes it will never allow him to get ahead of all his debts and obligations. One day, he sees an old friend and the friend offers him a job. This job sounds perfect--he gets to travel the world and make lots of money. All he has to do in return is bring home a package each trip. Because he's an honest looking sort, he shouldn't have any problems with the customs people...especially since he's been told that some of these agents are also in on it. But what is 'it'? What is he smuggling into the country? And for whom? Amal doesn't ask such questions--he just does his job and is quite good at it.

At this point I assumed that what would follow would be a rags to riches crime story where Amal worked his way up through organized crime to become a big man. This is a very typical sort of Indian film theme. However, the story surprised me--and I appreciate that. During one of his trips abroad, Amal meets a pretty Indian lady who is herself on the run from the mob. He fatefully decides to help her. Instead of minding his own business and returning home with the package as usual, he makes a few decisions--decisions which could easily get him killed. What's next for this ambitious young man? Well, I don't want to spoil it...suffice to day that his life gets a lot more interesting!

Unlike many Indian films, this one lacks the usual musical interludes, romance and clichés you might expect--and I appreciate that. It isn't that I don't like a more typical Bollywood film, but I also like variety--and "Buno Haansh" offers something different in style and content. But, there is a serious problem. Dev plays one of the most incredibly passive guys you could ever see--too passive. His friend convinces him to go into the smuggling business and the pretty lady on the run convinces Amal to do something even crazier. In both cases, the character says very little and soon finds himself pulled along by others. This makes for a strange sort of film--a film where there really is no hero nor any sense of direction. You find that there really is no one to root for and, at times, Amal is exasperating because he just seems awfully naive and stupid. Because of this, it's really hard to take the film very seriously or care about the guy and therefore it limits the impact of the story. An interesting near miss that is worth seeing but there are certainly better Indian films you could see instead.

        Underrated But Must Watch

This is Dev's one of the finest performance ever. Nowadays he kind of getting trolled by netizens. But this film is a masterpiece of this Bengali actor. Wonderful story, great script writing, promising supporting cast, awesome music, beautiful screenplay, acting all the things portrayed beautifully. Unlike other stereotypical bengali offbeat films, this film ends with a mind blowing open ended climax with spectators with their own interpretation that's why this is a must watch for every Bengali movie lovers, offbeat movie lovers and always Dev's lovers.
