An interesting story marred a bit by a difficult to believe leading character.

"Buno Haansh" is an Indian film that has many ingredients you would want in a suspense film but it also has a serious problem which cripples the plot. It's worth seeing, perhaps, but is far from the best sort of film coming from this wonderful filmmaking country.

The story comes from a novel by Samaresh Majumdar and the film stars Dev. Dev plays Amal, a poor but apparently decent Bangladeshi immigrant living in Kolkata (Calcutta). But, like so many people, he's struggling--struggling to help take care of his family, struggling with illnesses and struggling to make a life for himself. While he does have a job, he realizes it will never allow him to get ahead of all his debts and obligations. One day, he sees an old friend and the friend offers him a job. This job sounds perfect--he gets to travel the world and make lots of money. All he has to do in return is bring home a package each trip. Because he's an honest looking sort, he shouldn't have any problems with the customs people...especially since he's been told that some of these agents are also in on it. But what is 'it'? What is he smuggling into the country? And for whom? Amal doesn't ask such questions--he just does his job and is quite good at it.

At this point I assumed that what would follow would be a rags to riches crime story where Amal worked his way up through organized crime to become a big man. This is a very typical sort of Indian film theme. However, the story surprised me--and I appreciate that. During one of his trips abroad, Amal meets a pretty Indian lady who is herself on the run from the mob. He fatefully decides to help her. Instead of minding his own business and returning home with the package as usual, he makes a few decisions--decisions which could easily get him killed. What's next for this ambitious young man? Well, I don't want to spoil it...suffice to day that his life gets a lot more interesting!

Unlike many Indian films, this one lacks the usual musical interludes, romance and clichés you might expect--and I appreciate that. It isn't that I don't like a more typical Bollywood film, but I also like variety--and "Buno Haansh" offers something different in style and content. But, there is a serious problem. Dev plays one of the most incredibly passive guys you could ever see--too passive. His friend convinces him to go into the smuggling business and the pretty lady on the run convinces Amal to do something even crazier. In both cases, the character says very little and soon finds himself pulled along by others. This makes for a strange sort of film--a film where there really is no hero nor any sense of direction. You find that there really is no one to root for and, at times, Amal is exasperating because he just seems awfully naive and stupid. Because of this, it's really hard to take the film very seriously or care about the guy and therefore it limits the impact of the story. An interesting near miss that is worth seeing but there are certainly better Indian films you could see instead.

Dev must learn acting first 🤣

Devastating acting from the hero Dev who doesn't have the clear idea when & how he should react or which situation how to show emotion or not & he just only utters hush hash sound throughout the whole movie in every scene LoL.

Director wanted to make Bunohash as an art and a thriller movie simultaneously.

Irrelevant story, screenplay & Ending as well as.

The director portrays the hero as a naive & innocuous person from the very begining of the movie but at the end of the movie when the hero who first touched the Pistol in his life & later on he killed a villain by just a shot from a long distance.

        Pure piece of ridicule.

        Not a bad effort ...

BUNO HAANSH unfolds the story of an unsuspecting youth who gets trapped in the activities of an International smuggling racket. Amol (Dev) lives in a poor colony in Kolkata with his Mother, elder brother and his wife. Theirs is a needy family. Through his friend's contact Amol meets an influential lady of the nefarious group (MoonMoon Sen). Soon, he is criss-crossing the world, from Dacca to Bangkok, meeting dubious people and handing over illegal stuff to them. In the process, Amol moves further away from his family and his lady-love (Srabonti) who is battling a debilitating ailment..

In Bangkok Amol meets a mysterious girl J (Tanusree Chakraborty). She reveals to Amol that she did a course in tourism in Kolkata and was recruited by a travel company for a plum assignment in Bangkok. When she reached Bangkok, her passport was taken away by the company and she was coerced to work as an Escort. She somehow managed to grab her passport and flee from that place. Now goons are on the lookout for her...

The film is based on a story by Samaresh Mazumdar and directed by Aniruddha Roy Choudhury. The director ARC is repeatedly working to expand the breadth of meaningful Bengali cinema in terms of locales. In his APARAJITA TUMI he shot at several cities in the United States. Even in this film he takes the Bengali viewer to Dacca, Bangkok and other International destinations.

The director keeps the ending open-ended. I particularly liked the way the film ended. None of the relationship is taken towards a logical conclusion. The character of J is quite interesting. She is ambitious and quite ethical in her dealings. She is practical too, and when Amol could not get a Visa, J doesn't let her sentiments bog her down.

        Superb

A must watch..! A film made in heaven.. a life of a common man..his change from being the simple Amal to an unknown supplier from and to different countries.. his situation of desperation to end up needs of his family.. a good life for his love interest to making it big with one shot.. one can easily relate to Amal..

though the story line could have been made a little bit better with a more thrilling climax.. a little more suspense at the end should have grossed it a "Suspense Thriller" genre.. and the cinematography needs an applaud..it made it look more realistic..and the main thing..the music..Shantanu Moitra did a superb job..and Director Aniruddha Roy Choudhury placed it very well and maintained the pace..the songs fitted very well with some truly awesome lyrics and background score

        Underrated But Must Watch

This is Dev's one of the finest performance ever. Nowadays he kind of getting trolled by netizens. But this film is a masterpiece of this Bengali actor. Wonderful story, great script writing, promising supporting cast, awesome music, beautiful screenplay, acting all the things portrayed beautifully. Unlike other stereotypical bengali offbeat films, this film ends with a mind blowing open ended climax with spectators with their own interpretation that's why this is a must watch for every Bengali movie lovers, offbeat movie lovers and always Dev's lovers.
