Contrary to what most people think, "Ride Like the Wind" by Christopher Cross did have a music video done back in 1980, which was basically
him performing the song on a set. But this new take celebrating the 45th anniversary of the single's release is considered the official video, as stated
on the man's official page. One of my favorite songs of Cross, nothing to complain about it since it's been part of my life soundtrack for ages and it
brings me many lovely memories - the Michael McDonald comedy skit on SCTV is priceless - and just like his first album did back in 1979/1980 period
it was a earth-shattering musical experience coming from a new artist and what we call it the yacht rock genre. However, this clip...simply wasn't
my imagined idea. It's cool but very forgettable, except for the great song.
As mentioned by the director in some outlet, it was a reimagining and a new approach she wanted to give to audiences, going beyond the song's
descriptions (the sleepless lawless man on the run trying to get to the border of Mexico). So, she gives us a group of women driving old-style vehicles
through countless desert roads, chasing each other for no reason. The editing is fine; the cars and the roads make it all look as if we're seeing
something that happened decades ago when this song was still a popular tune on the radio. Great idea, sis, but it's boring without the story told
by Christopher Cross, one that is absolute cinema and thrilling to watch. I mean, take Audioslave clip for "Show Me How to Live" which pays tribute
to "Vanishing Point", mute the music and play Cross' song instead - see how suitable it goes the match between music and images. That's the idea, action!
"Six" is a positive grade in my book, and the approval goes to all the forementioned things in it. Above all, "Ride Like the Wind" and its echoes in
my mind that go such a long way. 6/10.
