New film about Ainsley McGregor was quite boring at first. I really wanted to drop it, but I sat through the whole thing, and it did get better!
The mystery was OK, the setting - preposterous as usually. But that's the genre. So the premise: a wealthy heiress who used to live in Sweet River comes to town with her entourage and gets killed.
Of course Ainsley is investigating. Her sheriff brother and firefighter love-interest do their best to help.
What I'm not loving is the book club. It looks too strained, too forced. Like, look at all those quirky characters from a small town! How different and fun they are. They are not. As fake as everything about that town is, they are the worst.
That's why I didn't like the first half of the film: too much of the book club people, too much of their arts shop nonsense. I still don't understand why Ainsley has to be a criminologist, professor of criminology, own a craft market, and be the sheriff's brother. All at once! When does she find time for all that? Too many reasons to meddle with the investigation!
Loved that the mystery really picked up the pace and finished strong.

Fun mystery series that is set in Texas. The reason I don't give it a higher review as it was not filmed in Texas and doesn't look like any part of Texas.
Sweet River is a fictional town but it makes you think of Sweetwater. They did a great job decorating.
But it is impressive they have that many fake Texas plates for the vehicles.
I'll watch the others but I'll laugh as it doesn't represent Texas well. For example, in "The Winemaker," the winter clothes are much thicker and warmer than what you would find in the state of Texas.
The characters have good camaraderie between each other. My family, including my teenagers, were engaged trying to solve the mystery.

Another great Murder Mystery! I am so glad Great American Family is making mysteries.
I love Aaron Ashmore, Robin Dunne, and Candace Cameron Bure they are so great together! This was a sweet funny mystery. They don't take themselves too seriously. I have never read the books but the movies definitely make me want to. I am becoming to like the supporting characters also. In this movie everyone seems more comfortable together and they are getting into a nice groove.
I hope they make a few more Ainsley McGregor Mysteries. I believe there are five books so at least five movies.
Ainsley packs a good punch too. Lol.

I guess if you like these not even 'B' movies, closer to D, youll like this but it like biege paint drying on a biege wall. You could go out for 10 mins come back and feel as though youve not missed anything. The people seem pleasant enough, kinda look like they have been in long running soap opera's i cant think of the u.s ones are, but i believe one is general hospital ? Anyway if you just want to miss some time in your lives and not feel fullfilled watch this. You know, its not gripping it dosnt test your brain, as i said its like watching paint dry. There are a lot of these hallmark/style films.
