Probably the greatest rags to rags documentary series you could witness ,
Lee is the essence is Hard core skater !
Waiting did build the excitement (15 years)' So we definitely got what we waited for !
Being a grommet in the late 80's and having Paraparaumu beach(Maclean park) Vert ramp was a blessing.........!
Regular Lee Ralph sitings and even getting dropped off by his Mum in a Yellow escort van ,being a pro skater was clearly glamourous , Watch it love it , love Lee and respect the man he is !
One of the greats but almost unheard of , But to the hardest of cores and the gnarliest of skaters Lee is spoken of on a regular basis , Witness for yourself , He did so much on a board and now we all know !

In every mag to every kid, the Gnarlieast the Burliest skateboarder intrigued everyone. I remember every picture of Ralph in the mags from being a kid wondering wtf was this picture all about, to where did he come from, what was his deal. This mini series tells you just that. Me and my friends waited a long time to know besides waiting 10 years from the previous teasers and it was worth it. Lee basically lived, is living every skaters dream life as far as I'm concerned. Even if he never went pro, the ups and downs of his life are just on point with ours and how he lives today is a dream to us, a nice kinda forest farming freedom strumming around on the guitar wield of Life. Thanks for breathing a little life into the desolate landscape of skateboarding guys, Great Show!
Thousands of miles away from New Zealand and thousands of miles away from the sun-drenched California skate scene there was a bunch of skaters in an old disused factory building who had built themselves their own miniramp, a place where many of those skaters witnessed a massive mohawked dude wearing Doc Marten boots ripping about that miniramp in what has become an almost legendary skate session with the infamous "drop-in to flat bottom carve to frontside grind on the same side" going down.
It was incredible to personally witness and be a part of that event and it is also incredible to see this documentary finally come out and tell the story of one the gnarliest and raddest skaters there ever was.

This 8 part series captivates you from the first few seconds of footage to the closing credits in the last episode!
Barefoot has a wide cast of guests sharing stories of the illusive Lee Ralph and has some great historical footage and stills.
I'm somewhat bias as I had the privilege of knowing Lee when he was skating at his peak in the 1980's but the stories and antidotes shred by friends and colleagues are pretty well spot on!
It also paints a pretty good picture of how dedicated Lee and other skaters at that time were given that there wasn't the sponsorship and endorsements that Greta skaters can get now days!
I hope this production leads to more captivating documentary's of skateboarding characters!

A fantastic down-and-dirty documentary of a rare talent in skateboarding. Spread over 8 short episodes, we learn about the early years of talented skater Lee Ralph, his travels in Australia and the USA, and how he took the US skate scene by storm - before it all went wrong. Famous skaters, including Tony Hawk and Christian Hosoi, give us their memories of Lee Ralph, telling us some crazy stories about him, and how much they respected his skating ability. While his light only burned briefly, Lee Ralph left a huge impression on the people he met, as shown by how vivid their memories of him are. Lee himself gives his pithy views on his success and downfall. Barefoot: the Lee Ralph Story is a documentary you cannot stop watching. It may well go down as one of the most off-beat and interesting skate documentaries of all time.
