The Dark Shack

I have a love/hate relationship with horror movies. Sometimes I enjoy then, sometime I don't. I watched ''The Dark Shack'' without having eared nothing about it before, without expecting anything from it. I was pretty surprised when I found out that this was an art house kind of flick.

The originality and creative aspect of this indie film made me get lost in it. There's a weird bipolarity switching from playful to very suspenseful. The atmosphere brought was unconventional and wild.

Of course the low budget aspect of it acts as a crutch at some point. The story takes time to evolve but it worth the great moments and the deviant mood from it.

''The Dark Shack'' brought a bit of freshness and colour to my film routine so for this I'll enter it in the love section.

Fantastic film! Really worth a watch. The direction from Dupont and performance from the cast are brilliant in my opinion and really put the viewer in the centre of the action. You'll sometimes find yourself seemingly a step ahead. The plot twist feels a little predictable.Though, I'd recommend this film if you're a fan of underground cinema or suspense thrillers, you should certainly give this film a look.

An independent film full of nice ideas but maybe without the budget to fully realise some of their potential. Nicely done however. Performance wise; they did an excellent job. The film hangs around characters and I thought they pulled it off amazingly! I found the film less absorbing at first; there's enough mystery to keep my interest but you want to hang in there for the end. Worth a look!

This movie proves what Hollywood does not practice. A great movie doesn't need famous name actors, oversized sets, expensive special effects. All it needs is plausibility in the plot, and decent acting. This has it all.

The movie tells the story of Melany who is kidnapped by criminals then detain at a shack in the forest haunted by an evil spirit. This is not a technically perfect film, but the defaults of it add to the uneasy and gritty overall experience. The special effects, coming from an other age, are very unusual and charming, the acting pleasant and authentic (We can actually tell they're having such a good time making this picture). I see here and there things that could have been done differently in the edit room, the story could have been refine or shorten, there's some lack of motivation with some characters and may be some plot holes but otherwise I just went thru this movie without a blink.

Always a delight to find unique films like this one.

Low budget for sure, but they do a good job with it. Creepy, compelling and original a good little movie. Will appeal to fans of bizarre cinema I imagine. I liked it a lot, simple plot but great characters and it works well.

Not so much a horror movie (though a few scenes were indeed quite chilling)
