"I'm Your Mother" is a well-written, heart-breaking special that is dulled by the lack of exaggerated character/POV on stage.
Tim Dillon is a satirist. He uses cynicism, absurd heightening, and extreme character to get his point across.
I watch "the best of Tim Dillon podcast" once a month ish. His stupid rants bring me joy. Largely because Tim is so... grotesque. A caricature. Not a real person. In his bizarre sun-glasses and stylish (hehe) outfit it's "Tim Dillon" is a lot like "Ali G".
In this special Tim is dressed in a hoody and jeans - Tim LOOKS and DELIVERS so down to earth, so earnest, you no longer have a feeling you're watching a character. To me, in "I'm your mother" this over-the-top heightening of his lands part boring, part sad, part mean.
It feels more drama, less comedy. Tragedy of the modern world rather than satire. Give it a watch!

It was good. Not great, just good - funny a lot of the times. But you could literally watch his pod and laugh just as much. Specials for me should feel special. This was good.
With these kinds of specials you can feel that this isn't old bits he's been working on for a long time and saved them for a special. I bet if he did this material for a couple of years they could be great. But Tim doesn't have a couple of years, so gluttony is the word I'd use for his life now. I can't argue - I'd be the same. I am the same - whenever there is a meal to be had, whenever there is money to be made - I am there. Netflix wants to throw money at you? Sure - go for it

Saw Tim live last year. His set has gone downhill fast. This was kinda hard to get through. He was trying hard almost struggling to craft a joke up there. Hanging out with terrible comedians like Joe Rogan has rubbed off on him. I don't even know who this was for. Even a 5 rating is generous. His last special was a little rough too but not even close to this bad. It's weird but both times I've seen him live, his sets been way better than the specials he's put out. This one's going to get some tough comments. At times it felt like he was having a panic attack or something. Also there's a decent bit of repetitive jokes if you listen to his podcast. We wish him luck though.

Exactly what we need right now! A comedy special that is actually worth they hype. This might very well be one of the best specials I have EVER SEEN! This is Tim Dillons magnum opus. This is by far the best special he has ever done. I haven't laughed like that in years, it is very rare I give it scores this high. But by God he deserves it, this will be remembered as his masterpiece. Something this good shows how nearly all other comedians are either lazy or holding back. This is what comedy is supposed too be. It makes me sad that a special this funny is that rare these days but it is. This will rival even some of Dave Chappelle's work! You have no idea how long I have waited for comedy that is actually funny. He does not hold back, he exposes who he really is too his audience and is not afraid too get personal! If you suffer from depression, look no further, for I have found the cure!
No shade to Tim. He makes me laugh more than anyone. However, many if these jokes seem sophomoric and it's obvious he's can be more clever and just funny in general. Honestly, he is SO GOOD at doing his off the cuff rants on his podcast... it might be more "him" to do a Kill Tony style show, but instead of comedy he gives each selected audience member a minute to talk about various topics that change throughout the night (controversial opinions, traumatic stories, embarrassing moments, illegal actions, etc.
Anyways, love and will always love Tim. Just feel like he's above making trans jokes (nothing wrong with making jokes about trans people, as with any group of people - it's just that EVERY COMEDIAN that isn't clean does trans jokes and it's far from intriguing).
His best talent, in my opinion, comes from his natural speech, on the spot rants and generationally great ability to be engaging, insightful, cynical, and dramatic/hyperbolic as a conversationalist.
I'll watch anything Tim puts out there. I enjoyed the creativity in his other recent show "This it's your Country". I hope he does more projects along that vein.
