The Competition received an extremely limited theatrical release in December 2014, nearly 6-years after principal photography had wrapped in May 2009. Its gala screening was held at Dendy Cinemas Canberra on December 2nd, followed by a public release there on December 11th. It did not get an official DVD or Blu-Ray disc release in the years since. As of early 2025; it has seemingly never been offered for sale on any digital platforms or for streaming on any services. The film can effectively be considered "lost media".
