Jason Momoa dressed up as his character from A Minecraft Movie while arriving for a fan event on Saturday (March 22) in Mexico City.

The 45-year-old actor wore a pink jacket similar to the one he dons in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular video game, and he even wore a hat of a blockified llama.

Jason was joined at the fan event by his co-stars Jack Black, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Hansen, as well as director Jared Hess. The day before, they all stepped out for a photo call to promote the movie.

Next month, Legendary Entertainment, Warner Bros. Pictures and Microsoft are mining for box office gold with a different kind of game-to-film adaptation: “A Minecraft Movie.”

For the uninitiated, the Microsoft-owned “Minecraft” is a sandbox game that drops players into the Overworld, a whimsical dimension made up of blocky voxels that look like boxes. There’s no storyline or single way to play: Users can make objects, build structures, fight enemy mobs, befriend animals and explore the islands crafted by other players. Picture Legos in a world with infinite possibilities.

Mikey Madison, Jack Black and Jon Hamm will be the next hosts of “Saturday Night Live,” with Morgan Wallen; Elton John and Brandi Carlile; and Lizzo serving as musical guests.

The kid-friendly movie adaptation of the popular video game is tracking to open to $58 million or thereabouts in its North American debut over the April 4-6 weekend, according to sources with access to data from the National Research Group.

Jennifer Coolidge has portrayed dozens of roles over the course of her acting career, but she can still remember the unpleasant experience of one of her earliest performances. Coolidge discussed the situation during a new interview with Grae Drake of Cbr to promote her newest movie, Riff Raff, which is now in theaters. When asked if she had any stage play experience as a child, Coolidge was instantly reminded of the time she was cast for a role in a rendition of The Wizard of Oz. She went for the lead role of Dorothy, feeling very confident about her audition, though she also read for the secondary character of Auntie Em. Coolidge admits she was then let down when the production cast her as Auntie Em instead of Dorothy.

“We’re post Covid and post strikes. This is the new normal now,” says Shawn Robbins, Fandango’s director of movie analytics.

Box office revenue in Europe slipped just 1% last year to €6.6 billion ($6.86 billion), far less than in Germany, which saw a drop of 6.5% to €868.4 million due to a lack of blockbusters and major sport events competing for audiences.

Cinema attendance held firm across the continent as admissions slid only 2% to to 841 million due to the success of local productions in many markets, according to preliminary figures from the European Audiovisual Observatory published on Thursday.

The combined 27 member states that make up the European Union saw a 2% decline in box office to €5 billion as admissions fell 3% to 640 million.

Germany fared worse, however, with a 5.8% drop in admissions to 90.1 million compared to 2023, the German Federal Film Board (Ffa) reported on Wednesday.
