The film "Homem com H" portrays the story of Ney Matogrosso, an icon of Brazilian music, marked by his daring performances; being heavily judged for this. Ney Matogrosso positively impacted the history of Brazilian popular music, bringing more representativeness and musical influence. His songs, which encompassed various musical styles in one, are just some of the many contributions he made to culture!
This film contains an impeccable soundtrack with classic MPB songs and several from Ney himself, completely impacting the viewer! Every song that played made me stop to research and save it to my playlist.
It was emotional to watch; personally, I didn't know much about the singer's story, but through the film, I came to know him and became genuinely interested in his story and music. Ney Matogrosso is portrayed with melancholy; it was something I noticed but also found beautiful to see. It's a type of melancholy that brings peace, you know?
The film contains impactful scenes of homophobia, sex, abuse, and aggression, both physical and verbal; one of the reasons I had so much difficulty watching it are extremely strong scenes that triggered me; at times I even thought, 'How is this actor, so young, not affected by this?'
They are actors; I know they are trained not to be emotionally impacted by everything, and I'm also aware that it's all acting, nothing real. But a child might not understand that. Without further 'spoilers,' you'll understand when you watch it.
In the end, I highly recommend it! It's an incredibly good and very emotional film.

It's not easy to create a biopic without clichés and i believe that this movie was able to tell the history of Ney Matogrosso with verve, soul and energy of this great artist. The direction, script, soundtrack, interpretation, edition, every detail of the movie contribute to the film achievement, with a great result. Maybe Homem com H be the best biopic made in Brazil and deserve to be seen in other countries. I hope for its success, here and abroad. Jesuíta Barbosa is impressive as the main character and the others actors are great. The movie is a emocional journey to the heart of a unique human being.

I watched this movie with my Brazilian wife who taught me about Ney. I honestly was not expecting this movie to be that good! I was hooked from the beginning to the end. The actor playing Ney deserves so much praise for his captivating portrayal. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie, even if you don't speak Portuguese. We watched it in Portuguese with English subtitles and it was perfect for us both.
I would say that this is a great movie to watch even if you do not know Ney's story, like me. I really enjoyed learning about his life and all of the fascinating friends he made in his life. We laughed, we cried, my wife sang, we had a great time!

From its opening shot it's clear 'Homem com H' isn't your average biopic. Lush cinematography sweeps us from the misty Atlantic Forest to the tropicalist explosion of the 1970s, bathing every frame in dreamlike light. The costumes-a hypnotic parade of feathers, leather, and sequins-recreate the era without feeling like a fancy-dress museum.
The film's greatest triumph is its performances. Jesuíta Barbosa doesn't merely imitate Ney Matogrosso; he embodies him with raw, magnetic energy, balancing vulnerability and creative fury.
Director Esmir Filho embraces sensuality without ever sliding into cheap provocation. The hotter scenes are choreographed with tenderness and tact, turning eroticism into a celebration of artistic freedom rather than an easy shock. The script leaps across decades, stitched together by musical numbers that serve as emotional portals; occasionally it trades biographical depth for momentum, yet it never loses its rhythm or exuberance.
Ultimately, 'Homem com H' is cinema that pulses-joyful, intense, sensual, and defiantly liberating. One of Brazil's most memorable films of 2025, it leaves you stepping out of the theater with Ney's music in your head. Unmissable.

I personally have never listened to Ney Matogrosso, but this movie has some amazing music by him that I will now be actively listening to. This film portrays his life from his hard childhood, to his rising to fame, to his impacting legend in Brazilian entertainment. Stories like this are so powerful and beautiful, and I am a more full person having watched this one.

- TriviaThe movie displays briefly one of the greatest controversies surrounding Ney Matogrosso, accused of copying the rock band Kiss. It's actually the other way around. Secos & Molhados was officially formed in 1971, though the band was performing together since the late 60s and was already known for their make-up. KISS came around years later, in 1973.
