The film is based on the song "The Man Who Married A Robot / Love Theme" by The 1975. The song is featured on the album "A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships". Anaiah Orlando heard the song upon its release in 2019, and immediately began writing a screenplay adaptation. The script was revisited in March of 2024 and put into production shortly after.
