Here they have taken the Hallmark dime-a-dozen recipe you can see in thousands of movies in the weeks before Christmas: The main character has made a career in the big city (where she of course never got married) and comes back home to the rural small town for a temporary stay. There she meets former boyfriends, discovers her roots and finds out that there is no place like home.

Except: This movie is genuinely funny. The main characters are not improbably beautiful. They are portrayed with real personality, you discover the struggles everyone has in the span between hope and reality. There are tragedies, both in the past and present that provide depth to the movie. And it contains a generous amount of swearing. Not just boring f-bombs, but creative innovations - try "fettlærv".

The movie probably has most to offer for those of us who have moved from a small town to a larger city, and who may wonder how it would have been if we had not moved. This reviewer grew up in the very city the movie is set and probably felt this all the more. But my guess is that these sentiments are the same all over the globe.

Unfortunately, I doubt it will get any international distribution, except for the occasional film festival or film club.

It gets five stars from me - definitely worth seeing.
