Heartwarming, touching, and exploration of love and poetry

Watched at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

Get ready for tissues because ouch....this one does hit pretty close to home. The exploration between Andrea Gibson and Megan Falley of their love, relationship and life moments are well-explored as they are placed with emotional, humorous and touching moments throughout. Filmmaker Ryan White approaches Gibson and Falley's relationship solemnly as White is able to explore the aspects of mortality, especially with death approaching, love relationships and how humans and relationships are so impactful and important to one's self. Understanding the notions of human connections and the things humans all encounter and struggle together.

Filled with great poetic atmospheres, presentation style, and some really wonderful discussions, it really feels humane. As if you are able to get into the lives of Gibson and Falley, observing each step and important moment of their lives. I don't know them personally at all, but this documentary does a good job on captivating my observation and leaving me with a sense of joy, tears, and heartwarming.

Despite having a small gripe regarding certain sound designs (particular because I am a bit peaky with sound notions), it succeeds with it's purpose.

    Such a poem to live

As i write this review not being a writer my self, i wounder how to honor Andrea and Meg and this deeply moving and life changing documentary about them .Of course Ryan White was the perfect director to tell this intimate , deep , unapologetic poem, "The keepers" is one of the best doc series i ever watched and he made it to. I only started reading Meg lately. Andrea as been a life safer for many years now . They saved me from the giant walls i have around my heart so many countless times . I watched it holding the hand of my wife , she is Brasilian and do not speak English. Trough the years Andrea ´s poems have been translated to her while i cried, its very difficult for me to cry . It is an eternal gift Andrea left , they are walls breakers , and poems are cancerproof , they live forever . The documentary its so short, 1 hour and 45 minutes, that seemed a second , a true second, a live second , a love second. I wished for a Thousand seconds more of Andrea and Meg. A thousand thank yous , its all i can say with my heart on my hands .

    Not as I expected

I found the fingering part gross and repulsing, so much so that it ruined the rest of the documentary for me. I didn't like many of the other directorial choices either. I think the main problem for me was the way the director decided to approach such a delicate theme, a way that didn't resonate at all with me.

    Laugh-cry until it hurts

At Sundance we laughed so hard we cried. Two poets loving each other raw, with a deep sense of trust and honor... Highly recommend if you want to feel alive. Joyfully alive.

The film was also stunningly beautiful. There is some funny high jinx going on outside that they return to and the landscape is breathtaking. The whole movie does that- holds two things at once.

Some audience members had no idea who these poets were when they showed up, but said they were changed by all they saw. There was so much truth and beauty.

If this comes to a theater near me, we'll make a night of it with friends and see it again.

    Only the Best Light

As a boring straight white girl, I'm embarrassed and SO sad to say I did not know of Andrea's works while they were physically on this earth. I've heard Tig talk of them as an amazing poet several times before but always thought poetry WAY out of my league of intelligence. How amazing was it that Andrea was a poet with a self proclaimed...and ridiculously modest, 5 word vocabulary?! Their WAY of using vocabulary, however, stretches farther than WORDS and defines emotions and experiences that ANYONE would find hard NOT to relate to. Their story and...I hate this overly used word, but just seems finally accurate in this instance..."journey" was frustratingly devastating and OCTOPOIDIALLY ;) inspiring. I'll never forget them and hope they know they SINCERELY changed this world for the better. I've truly always strived to live by Love, but now am excited to start viewing feelings and emotions that I always before may have found negative or uncomfortable... just...as LOVE as Andrea teaches us. What a gift.
