As a lot of other reviewers have stated this is a very odd perspective. The documentary comes across as trying to find sympathy for the child predators. Some reviewers have said it's anti leo,I don't see that, but it's definitely trying to humanize the men caught trying to have relations with children. It paints Chris Hanson in a pretty poor light. Overall it was hard to watch.
This was a horrible waste of my time. The creators of this mess are the most self-important tools I've encountered in a long while. That said. I also think Chris Hanson came off very poorly, based on his own words alone. Basically, if you want to end your night upset with everyone involved, then watch this. If, on the other hand, you want to spend your time doing something more worthwhile, just sit in the corner and stare at the wall.
This was a very compelling documentary. It did what I thought it would do, but it did it well. There was something morbidly fascinating about the show it's about (it seems like you're not allowed to type the full title on here) back in the day, and this does try to look at the whole phenomenon in a thought-provoking and nuanced way. I didn't want to say "objective" only because it lacked narration, since there are other ways to argue a point in a documentary, but still. This documentary also looks at how the show has motivated some people who want to keep it going, in spirit, in their own kinda troubling ways, which was news to me.
Oddly they decided to be critical of the show and be pro predator. They feel it's ok to try and get with minors or something, not sure. The film does have some good footage that wasn't aired on television back in 2004-2007. It's weird to watch predators framed in a positive light like this film decided to do.
I watched TCAP like most people who watched this documentary. I don't understand what the documentarian was trying to convey here. The impact of the stings? The legacy Chris Hanson left behind? Contrasting what Hanson does to those who emulate him? I don't feel like this was worth the time I spent watching it, nor did it leave me with any food for thought like a good doc should.
