    Great episode.

I love this series. Miss lady Felicia, even though she sl around, she knew what she was. Glad Mrs McCartney is gone. She was always trying to judge ot but didn't see how she herself was. Lady Felicia would put her in her place about gossiping all the time. I would be glad when she was threatened, then she was all sweet and sorry. Who wears a hat all the time, in the house. True sometimes father brown was too nosey. I also miss bunty and sid. Mrs Devine and Brenda are a breath of fresh air after Mrs. M. Also happy to have seen the last of dumb Mallory. He was rude and a moron. So far as I'm concerned the new season is great.

    The Prize of Colonel Gerard

Colonel Cecil Gerard was an unlikable man. His stepson and nephew Edward disliked him for marrying his mother. Edward thinks he offed his father in order to do so.

Edward also had a traumatic experience in the Korean war where he was held captive. Gerard also has a Chinese adopted daughter but everybody in the household seems to have some motive for his murder.

When Edward is arrested, Father Brown investigates and believes tiger whiskers holds a clue.

A rather racy undercurrent to this episode, Gerard's brother has a thing with the busty maid, the bad tempered French chef is known to be a tiger in bed and even a smidgen of incest.

Of course once Father Brown works out the method of the murder, it is easy to guess the suspect.

    Beware the soup.

Colonel Gerard throws a party for his nephew Edward, who's returned home having been a prisoner of war in Korea. It's not a happy environment as the family dynamic is very unsettled, it's no wonder a murder follows.

A solid mystery, a pretty decent plot, which makes me recall an episode of Tales of the Unexpected, Fat Chance, where the modus operandi is also used.

Some definite humour throughout, with Mr Digby causing a few laughs. Emma Fielding very good as always. Some lovely costumes used throughout.

    A solid mystery 7/10

    Opening music

Could anyone tell me the name of the music played during the opening party scene ? There is no mention in the credits. Sounds like a waltz.

I really appreciate Diectors like Woody Allen who acknowledge all the music they use in their shows even if copywriters have expired and. They don't have to do it

I've tried the Shazam app to find the name of this music but no luck

I don 't get the ten line minimum requirement

I really enjoy Father Brown mysteries.

The opening credits remind me of the Mad Men opening mixed with the Perot opening graphics

Like many victims on this show, he really had it coming!

Colonel Gerard is NOT a very nice person. How bad he is...well, that's something you learn much later in the show. Regardless, he's so awful that it comes as no suprise at all when he is murdered. The problem is that his relationship with his nephew is horrible...and so when the Colonel joins the choir invisible, the police soon arrest the young man. Who really did it...and what REALLY strange method was used to kill the man? I say strange because I looked into it...it really IS a way to kill someone and I can almost guarantee you've never heard of it!

This plot is very unusual and offers an interesting look at how the Father feels about the law. Well worth seeing and one that you won't soon forget.

    • Trivia
Tiger's whiskers are made of the same material as hair and nails so they can get just as sharp as human fingernails, but they are not the same as eating ground glass etc and will not kill anyone.
    • Goofs
When Colonel Gerard is taken to the ambulance, the ambulance clearly says on the side "Nottingham County Council Ambulance Service," Father Brown is set in Gloucestershire, approx. 137 miles away.
