If you've been hearing a lot about the new Netflix original series "Adolescence" recently, I'm not surprised. This dark, troubling, and gripping story of a young boy named Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) who's accused of a grievous crime features four episodes — all of which are shot in a single take — making this limited series a technical marvel by any standard. /Film's own Chris Evangelista declared, upon its release, that "Adolescence" might just be the best original Netflix series in the entire history of the streaming service, and frankly, I'm not inclined to argue with him. Across those four episodes, "Adolescence" explores Jamie's disturbed psyche and, stunningly, makes a huge reveal right at the start: at the end of the very first episode, we see video proof of Jamie murdering a young girl from his class.

Season 3 finds Jack Ryan (Krasinski) on the run and in a race against time. Jack is wrongly implicated in a larger conspiracy and suddenly finds himself a fugitive out in the cold. Now, wanted by both the CIA and an international rogue faction that he has uncovered, Jack is forced underground, crisscrossing Europe, trying to stay alive and prevent a massive global conflict.

Kendrick Sampson has been cast as a lead in the ABC drama pilot thirtysomething(else), a sequel to Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick’s beloved 1987-91 drama series.

Sampson plays a new character in the thirtysomething franchise, joining Odette Annable, Chris Wood, Patrick Fugit and Auden Thornton, who play grown-up versions of the children in the original series.

Written by Herskovitz and Zwick and to be directed by Zwick, thirtysomething(else) will follow an ensemble of new faces, the new generation of thirtysomethings. They are being joined by returning original cast members Ken Olin (Michael Steadman), Mel Harris (Hope Murdoch), Timothy Busfield (Elliot Weston) and Patty Wettig (Nancy Weston), reprising their characters in supporting roles. Throughout production on Starz’s Dublin Murders, one of its stars says, you could never quite tell when winter might be coming.

The crime thriller, which premieres Sunday (8/7c), shot many of its outdoor scenes in the woods of Belfast, where Game of Thrones filmed. And even though the HBO fantasy series wrapped a while back, “They had walking tours,” Killian Scott tells TVLine, laughing. “And it’s like, ‘Where are the bodies?!,’ and then, ‘Cut, we’ve got Hodor in the background.’ And you look over, and there’s a dude in the full Hodor costume.”

The planned “American Rust” series has found new life at Showtime, with the premium cabler giving the show a straight-to-series order, Variety has learned exclusively.

In addition, Jeff Daniels has come onboard to star in and executive produce the show, which is based on the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name. Now simply titled “Rust,” the show is described as a family drama that will explore the tattered American dream through the eyes of complicated and compromised chief of police Del Harris (Daniels) in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania. When the woman he truly loves sees her son accused of murder, Harris is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him.

Spectrum Originals and Paramount Network have placed a series order for a Southern Gothic mystery series starring Josh Hartnett and Bridget Regan.

Per its official description, the 10-episode show, tentatively titled “Paradise Lost,” is about a psychiatrist (Regan) who moves with her family from California to her husband’s (Hartnett) hometown in Mississippi only to uncover shameful secrets that irrevocably change the lives of everyone involved.

Hartnett and Regan (“Jane the Virgin”) lead a cast that also includes Barbara Hershey (“Once Upon a Time”), Nick Nolte, Gail Bean (“Snowfall”), Danielle Deadwyler (“Gifted”) and Shane McRae (Sneaky Pete).

“Paradise Lost” is created and written by Rodes Fishburne (“Blood & Oil”) who will act as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Arika Lisanne Mittman (“Dexter”). Nick Nolte has joined the cast of the upcoming “Star Wars” streaming series “The Mandalorian, ” Variety has confirmed with sources.

The series, which will air on the streaming service Disney+, will also star Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano. Like the other previously announced cast members, the exact details of Nolte’s character are being kept under wraps. Jon Favreau penned the series, which is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. It follows the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Disney declined to comment.

Nolte is an acting veteran who has been nominated for three Academy Awards throughout his career, most recently in the best supporting actor category for “Warrior” in 2012. His other notable film roles include “The Prince of Tides,” “48 Hours,” and “Cape Fear” among many others.

Finally. Bryce Hodgson, who has recurred since the first season on iZombie, has been promoted to series regular for the fifth and final season of the CW’s comedic drama.

Insecure fans let out an audible gasp when "Nathan with the face!" entered Issa and Molly's "party Lyft" during the season three premiere. Kevin Zegers (Fear the Walking Dead) has booked a key recurring role opposite Connie Britton and Eric Bana in Dirty John, the first season of Bravo’s true crime anthology series, from Universal Cable Productions, Los Angeles Times Studios and Atlas Entertainment.

Written by Chance co-creator Alexandra Cunningham, Dirty John is based on the articles and breakout true-crime podcast from Los Angeles Times reporter Christopher Goffard. It centers on John Meehan (Bana), a handsome and romantic charmer who sweeps Debra Newell (Britton) off her feet and pulls her into his web of lies. The series chronicles the true story of how a romance with Meehan spiraled into secrets, denial and manipulation.

Jason Katims has hired Jeni Mulein as the new head of development for his Universal Television-based True Jack Productions.

“I’m so excited to work with and collaborate with Jeni who has amazing creative instincts and a wonderful facility for all aspects of making television, from development through production,” said Katims.

Mulein takes over her new role from Michelle Lee, who announced in December she would leave True Jack to become creative executive at Apple Worldwide Video, the unit tasked with leading Apple’s push into series programming.

Gaumont has appointed former Miramax and Shine executive Leslie Belzberg (“The Bridge”) to the position of senior VP of production at its Los Angeles headquarters.

Belzberg will handle day-to-day scripted production for Gaumont’s projects. She will start working on “Narcos” (pictured), whose fourth season is currently in production for Netflix.

“Leslie’s extensive experience in producing scripted TV series will make her an invaluable member to our team and we’re delighted to work with someone so accomplished,” said Gene Stein, the president of Gaumont’s TV division in the U.S.

Doctor Who alum David Tennant has been cast in HBO’s upcoming comedy from Girls‘ Lena Dunham and Jenni Konner, TVLine has learned.

Tennant will play Walt, the husband of controlling Los Angeles mom Kathryn Siddell-Bauers. As previously reported, Kathryn will be played by Jennifer Garner, in her first series regular TV role since Alias.

The half-hour series centers on a camping trip to celebrate Walt’s 45th birthday, a journey that starts to unravel when Kathryn’s uptight former best friend, timid sister and a free-spirited tagalong join the party.

Michael Peña (Crash) and Diego Luna (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) are set to star in Season 4 of Narcos, Netflix announced on Tuesday.

Production on the new season, to be set in Mexico and eyed for a 2018 release date, recently got underway in Mexico City. No further details were revealed. Season 3 of the drug-trafficking drama, which followed the aftermath of Pablo Escobar’s death, premiered in September.

Peña’s previous small-screen credits include Fox’s Gracepoint, Eastbound & Down and The Shield.

Andrea Riseborough stars in a new Hollywood reboot of The Grudge, with Nicolas Pesce as writer and director.

The Grudge successfully struck when the Japanese horror genre iron was – appropriate to its ghostly threats – white-hot in the wake of the American remake of The Ring, this time starring a genre favorite in TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Sarah Michelle Gellar. The 2004 film, which saw director Takashi Shimizu remake his 2002 Japanese horror flick, Ju-on: The Grudge, yielded two sequels, which arrived successively in 2006 and 2009.

Now, a reboot movie of The Grudge is coming from Ghost House Pictures from director Nicolas Pesce.

BBC America has released the trailer for the third and final season of its drama series “Broadchurch,” which centers on the murder investigation of 11-year-old Danny Latimer in the once-sleepy seaside town of Dorset, England. The series is created by Chris Chibnall (“Camelot,” “Gracepoint”) and stars Olivia Colman and David Tennant as the detective duo.

It was nearly two years ago when the last episode of BBC America’s Broadchurch aired in February 2015. While we don’t know exactly when the acclaimed series will return, we do know that it’s coming next year. That’s because the British crime drama has released a slight 10-second teaser today promising its 2017 season 3 debut.

Starring former Doctor Who David Tennant and Olivia Colman (Peep Show) as Detectives Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller, respectively, the teaser doesn’t reveal much in terms of what fans should expect from this new season. For those who’ve waited 22 months to hear any news whatsoever, though, it is welcomed. Among the most intriguing things found in this teaser is a hot second reveal of Reverend Paul Coates, played by Arthur Darvill (Legends of Tomorrow).

I'm not familiar with the work of British director James Strong (he's directed TV shows like Downton Abbey, Doctor Who, Gracepoint, and Broadchurch), but I suspect I'll get my introduction to his work with his newest film project. The Hollywood Reporter says that Strong is set to direct Middle Earth, a biopic of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings writer J.R.R. Tolkien.

Now that you have had a few days to come down from the season finale of Gotham, you may have started wondering when you can own the home video release. Thankfully, Fox and Warner Bros. opted to not wait very long at all to announce that the complete second season will arrive on Blu-Ray on August 16.
