Summary
Reviewers say 'The Au Pair' is lauded for its gripping plot, exceptional acting, and unexpected twists, featuring standout performances by David Suchet and Sally Bretton. The drama is celebrated for its tension and unique premise, maintaining suspense throughout. However, some critique the show for inaccuracies in diabetes portrayal and certain production choices, like filming locations and character actions, which detract from realism. Despite these flaws, 'The Au Pair' is generally well-received for its compelling drama and strong performances.

The best part of this drama is how George went from doddery old man to flying off at a whim driving around and living in a flat with spiral staircase with his daughter giving him his insulin jabs because he kept forgetting to do it the kids are great little actors bit I think it is Sally bretton does a Great job in it though shame they had to go to Ireland to film it when there is plenty of places to film in England or they could have changed the place for filming reason but they didn't so it's a shame that certain things always let this drama down but it seems to be a thing with channel five these days.
As a diabetic i found this extremely annoying! Firstly INSULIN is kept in a fridge not a cupboard! Secondly if someone is unconscious with LOW SUGAR you do NOT give them INSULIN! That will kill them!! Sorry but what a bad, bad script!!
Really wanted to carryon watching but the extreme inaccuracy would not allow me too!
If someone with dangerously low blood sugar was given insulin they would die! I dont understand how basic medical knowledge wasn't checked! I cant surely be the only person who saw this? Even if you are not diabetic you would know this!
We live in the year 2025 and there is GOOGLE!

Channel5, you should be ashamed of yourself. Your consultant for all things medical should be sacked! The medical inaccuracies in every single episode are absolutely appalling!!! It actually became annoying to watch. The acting was really poor from everyone except Sally Breton and David Suchet. Kenny Doughty was particularly disappointing as a seasoned actor. He should have done better. I feel like if this had been made by ITV who are known for their miniserieses or the BBC, it could have been so much better.
Overall, I'm loathed to give it even three stars. Also, it did not need to be four episodes.

INSULIN SHOULD NOT BE KEPT IN THE CUPBOARD...
I assume they are referring to Scene 1.09
"Insulin that is not currently in use should be stored in the refrigerator to maintain its effectiveness and prevent it from breaking down. Once an insulin pen or vial is opened, it can be stored at room temperature for up to 28 days."
And, Scene 1.19A George is unconscious:
You can see, Chris is actually preparing the Glucagon, you can see him shake the Glucagon powder with the liquid, you just about don't see him go to the fridge - which was actually filmed.
All in all, well done to everyone involved!!!

I only put this on cos I had nothing to watch. As with most things on C5, I wish I hadn't wasted my time. From the inaccuracies with the insulin to the plodding storyline. Sooooo predictable, complete rubbish. Why on earth did David Suchet, a very fine actor IMO, agree to do this? Does he need the money? Maybe it was because he would get the chance to drive that beautiful SAAB?
I wonder if he was pleased with how it turned out? Also the husband, who was brilliant in Vera, didn't do a very convincing role in this either. In fact, the only things on C5 worth watching are new All Creatures Great & Small and Ellis!
