This was pleasantly surprising. It broke a bit from many of the formulaic, predictable plots that are so common in these short films. It made me legit laugh, and not because of the plethora of errors that are also common in these movies (characters being referred to by the wrong name during dialogue, incorrect word choices, glaring plot holes, etc.), but because it was truly comical. The highlight is the acting of the main character, Jessie. Both main characters were played really well, but her acting in particular was top notch! It's definitely one of my favorite films I've watched on any of these reels-styled movie apps... and I have watched quite a few of them!
This is my comfort vert! The one that keeps me coming back whenever I need to watch something that feels like coming home to friends. It is HILARIOUS and was the OG girl masquerading as a guy vertical, and to be honest the new ones don't hold a candle to this one!!
When we are introduced to Aidan Browns character, Nathan Shannon, and one of his first lines are "I need a lover" after accidentally kissing Jesse (dressed as a man) in a hotel lobby you know you're in for a treat! Nathan is trying to avoid his Grandmothers blind dates while searching for his childhood love "Starlight". Aidan is hilarious in this series, his constant jealousy over Jesse spending time with others, his excuses for purchasing Jesse gifts and confusion over the entire situation. Honestly, Aidan is an amazing actor, and is going to go so far in his career!
Katherine Foden, as Jesse Gains is OUTSTANDING in this series, with the motive of trying to get money for her grand fathers medical bills, hiding her true identity all while falling for her boss, who as the title says, thinks she is a man. The toilet scenes always have me cackling, that and the scene where she is looking after a drunk Nathan and makes him dance for her. I need to see more of Kat!
Harold, Nathans assistant played by Havon - is perfect in this role, catching onto the fact that Nathan is falling for Jesse, even before Nathan realises it. I think my favourite line of his in this series may be "WOW, Mr Shannon is... maybe he does swing that way, I guess I'm not his type..."
Vivian White played by Kelsey is our token "villain" in this series, but you have to love her! The way she is so over the top, constantly vying for Nathans attention and trying to pay people off so that she is the only one Nathan will love, all done in such a way you are still laughing at her antics. Kelsey is one of the best actresses in the Vertical space, I am so glad she has been able to take on more protagonist roles in her recent releases, but this will always be a stand out for me!
When I tell you there are too many amazing scenes in this one to even list, every scene is gold. This is the perfect comedy series and like I said, is my comfort fic I love this one so much.
10/10 - Because I apparently have limited myself to this level but if I could I would go higher!
