    genuinely so underrated

I went into this show with zero information and I have never been more pleasantly surprised. As someone who likes My Chemical Romance, fanfiction and queer media... what a treat lol.

I have watched it six times and enjoyed it every time. So many laugh-out-loud moments and genuinely touching ones. The only scene I skip is... that one scene. You know the one. Plus, the main characters are all so likeable and, even in their exaggerated moments, feel like real people who I could've known.

Seriously, though. N00b is so underrated that I had to create the subreddit for it myself, and the only Tumblr posts are other people talking about how underrated it is. More people watch this show please! Hopefully there are more seasons.

    This is everything

The first thing that struck me was the aesthetic of the series, which only enhances all its other great elements. The characters are all (or almost) moving, funny and entertaining, and played by a very talented cast. The chemistry between Nikau and James had me grinning from ear to ear throughout the whole thing. Some difficult themes are explored, giving more depth and meaning while keeping it lighthearted and dynamic.

Overall and hilarious and addictive series that I could not help but binge watch (twice)

N00b is an amazing discovery and I can only hope for a season 2 and more recognition!

    My generation's Stranger Things

You had me at "That's so fetch".

It's so realistic for 00s southern hemisphere high school, some parts weren't comedic for me, just weirdly nostalgic.

Some scenes are too full on with the homophobia and performative sexual overtones it made me want to stop watching. But also you realise the context of current millennials since Covid, #MeToo and marriage equality.

For any American viewers, not all of the things happened at my high school but the quality writing of the show makes you certain they happened elsewhere.

I'm sure there's some specific NZ jokes I don't get, but most of the things about school uniforms, toxic football masculinity, racism and coming out in 2005 are realistic for Australia.

It feels autobiographical rather than heartwarming like other high school gay romance shows (the actual fanfiction types). But the amazing cast and the attention-to-detail production makes me think this will become an iconic classic series.

Perfect, hope there is a season 2

This brought me right back to my teen years in 2005. Spot on. Well written and NZ tv at it's best. I binged the whole series in one night. Really hoping there's a season 2! Characters are slightly comically exaggerated but in the best way. The characters all have depth and this season truly feels like it's skimming the surface with a lot more backstory to explore. It's beautifully shot as well.

The humor is sharp yet relatable, capturing the awkwardness and charm of that era perfectly. The soundtrack is a nostalgic bonus, enhancing key moments without feeling overdone. Each episode flows seamlessly into the next, making it almost impossible to stop watching. The cast's chemistry is undeniable, and you can tell there's a lot of heart behind the production. It's refreshing to see a series that doesn't take itself too seriously while still delivering emotional and impactful moments. If you love coming-of-age stories with a Kiwi twist, this is a must-watch!

    More series like this please!!

one of the best things ive ever seen

Oh man as a fandom obsessed teen, this show was amazing and I love it so much, I've watched it twice through now. It's funny and made me laugh many times, a little inappropriate but i think that was part of the point. So well produced for a NZ show. All the references were amazing and the shot of James's bedroom was so cool and I was literally screaming and jumping because I know that I would so be friends with him. Everyones performances were so good! The mention of Dunedin also made me jump since thats where I'm from and it felt so funny hearing it in a show. Everything about this show just made me feel like I was there hanging out with the characters and it got surprisingly deep at some points too, which I didn't expect from a comedy like this. I recommended it to literally all my friends, I love this show sooo much!!!!! Just incase like anyone who worked on the show reads this, hiii!!! Great job :333 I love you all!!!!!!!
