Swedish TV history at its best

Miss Friman's War is a clever, well-written och beautifully exercised story about a group of women from various parts of the Stockholm class community in the early 20:th century. Mainly the characters are well-developed and each of them has a story to tell. It's main theme is women's liberation movement but it also brings up class issues, the food industry and relationships without feeling excessive or wanting to take on too much.

Being equally empowering, joyful and sad Miss Friman's War reminds us about what it took to get to where we are now, how hard these women fought to give future female generations the right to vote and live a life outside of their homes.

    Uncomfortable truth

This serie is loosely based on the struggles that real women had to deal with on a daily basis.

Season1-4 are all equally good and point out meny important matters that unfortunately are still occuring in modern time.

We can thank the strong women who gave their entire lives to womens rights for what we have today for if they never fought for their rights as equals this serie amongst countless of other daily events big and small would never be possible and its important to remember and celebrate womens rights for as they said in the serie, women are 50 percent of the population and deserve equal space and validation.

I give this miniserie a 10 because i think it deserves it for its well made. The costumes and surroundings are true to the 1905 era and the actors deserve praise for their work.

"A few small drops" makes an ocean.

    This is fantastic !

Absolutely fantastic, engaging and charming. Loved this show in every way. It's for everyone. Too sad that many people the issues still remain unresolved to this day. What I like the best is that it shows the growth of individuals opinions and personal development of its characters skillfully played by a group of talented actors/actresses. There is a lot to learn from this show while also being entertained. I highly recommend this show. Thanks to PBS we are being exposed to a variety of cultures and languages and we see that we are all just humans no matter where we come from. What beautiful lesson.

A man hating propaganda at its lowest

I patiently watched through all the episodes. It was a bitter experience sitting through the lies and exaggerations of Swedish state propaganda that throughout the show's development starting from the very first moment carries on an aggressive campaign of villainizing and demonizing men. The series portrays all men as rich, powerful, snobby, oppressive, corrupt and sometimes as stupid and abusive. All at the same time, somehow, all the women in the series, regardless of their status and standing, appear to be graceful, intelligent and angelic. The fact that some people would actually buy these extremist ideas fascinates me. According to the renowned historian Anita du Rietz, the series creates an inaccurate picture of the situation of women at the turn of the century. Anna Whitlock who is supposed to be the inspiration for this series had quite a different real life experience than that depicted in this man hating propaganda series. According to Rietz, female entrepreneurship was very common at that time. Rietz believes that the series has been adapted to today's prejudices about how society must have been a cheap attempt to create a huge contrast between then and nowadays. I recommend this series to all those interested in studying subtle propaganda techniques, gynocentrism and misandry.

Sweet but very cloying Hallmark type story done Swedish style

This series would not be out of place on channels like Hallmark. The story is sweet to the point of being cloying, and slightly nauseating at times. The predictability of events is obvious. It is reminiscent of a British period drama that deals with the usual moral dilemmas of rich vs poor, and men vs women. It just tries to cover too much ground, and sometimes the dialog is out of place with a particular scene but just stuck there to make some moral point. It probably is popular in Sweden but I doubt it would have a global level of popularity.
